good story

I must say I much preferred this audio over the Pearl Broach one. The narrators where SO much better, they made me feel these were real people not rich good looking people with a big attitude!, changing the characters personality from the earlier stories! The story was really interesting and the historical characters came alive ,it did ramble on a bit, but not to bad relating to the story. It did go on and on and repeat a lot about peoples junk and got quite repetitive with crude talk. For me that doesn't lend itself to being soul mates. It cheapens the story!

I finished listening, enjoyed the story

I am enjoying the story, the time traveling and the brooch mystery is enjoyable. the changing of the narrator/narrators is disconcerting and annoying. I couldn't listen to the whole book ( the pearl brooch) I did listen to the whole topaz brooch.

Disappointed

Ii have loved all of the "Brooch" series until this one. The narrators are not nearly as good as the one who read the previous books. Also, why did Kathine suddenly decide profanity was necessary in this storyline? I listened all the way through since the story was OK, but not up to her usual standards, in my opinion!!

Unlike the rest of the series (not in a good way)

This one (The Topaz Brooch) is notably out of sync (not in a good way) w/ the previous 9 books of the series. Those had a fine mix of history, today-vs-past contrast, creativity, life values, and some romance. This one is totally discordant like someone gave notes to "amp it up" and the author did so completely ignoring the balance of her own prior books. The new/recent characters have all become cartoons, and the sex passages are also so cartooned they are gothic and formulaic - certainly uninteresting and actually off-putting. I'm listening via Audible while in Covid-19 stay-home, and even so, this isn't entertaining - it is just irritating. The recorded performance too is (too far) over the top. But the performers have taken the content AND tone from the poor book, so I've given them an extra star. The only positive is that it has encouraged me to divert my time to read about the actual history of the Battle of New Orleans and Jean Lafitte. If I could do it over, I'd pass on this one.

New narrater

New narrater took lots of getting used to. Actors was okay but liked Terry Schnabelt’s voices better. Had to relearn who was who and some just didn’t work for me. 👍

Not Happy!

Did not like the narration. The language and sex references were vulgar. Not what the other books gave. Very disappointed!

Narration

Why have you changed the narration in the 9th and 10th books? I expect the main characters to sound the same and when they don't it really makes the story less enjoyable. The Scottish accents are,(it pains me to say) awful.

Really Long and alot of Sex

I'm very surprised, I love this series and I have listened to all of these audible books. I was a little disappointed with this one, it was long, and a lot of sex in this one. WOW I was really surprised. I miss the narrator Teri Schnaubelt, I love her...She draws you in to all the books she does. But I can't wait until the next one! I love love the Ruby Brooch was my Fav.

Not Katherine Logan’s best work.

It was as if the author was just filling pages and didn’t bother with a good story.

The narration rocks!

By far the best in the series to date. Narrators Patrick and Marnye nailed it.

Difficult to understand male narrator

I enjoyed the first 8 books of this series, and didn't bother verifying who was narrating books 9 & 10 when I purchased them. I actually returned book 9 and couldn't get through it. The cadence in the narration was extremely disappointing. The female narration by Marnye Young was clear and crisp, though often lacking in responsively appropriate emotion during dialogues between male and female characters. The female voices were recorded more loudly and clearly than the male voices, requiring constant adjustment of the volume while listening to the story. The sound of the male narrator sounded like it was performed with a “tinny” recording instrument in a muffled manner. Dialogues between male and female characters sounded disjointed, and made for some confusing, stilted conversations. Unfortunately, Patrick Zeller was unable to pull off the Scottish brogue without tremendous slurring of words, making it very difficult to comprehend what was being said. I could not follow any of the words by the character Elliot, so any time he spoke explaining the crux of the "torque", I couldn't understand what was being said. I'm sure the story line is great, but this particular male narration ruined the enjoyment of the book. One last "aside" - it seemed almost as though a different author penned this book compared to books 1-8, because the adults spoke immaturely - like sex-crazed teens enjoying poorly verbalized conversations.

Not the same brooch series,

The Brooch series has been one of my favorite set of audio books for years written by Katherine Lowery Logan. When I found out that another book was available, The Topaz Brooch, I was very excited to keep my series going and looked forward to another time travel adventure.

It was not long into listening when I realized that The Topaz Brooch was not of the same style and or quality
Of her previous books in this series. I am not sure if the lack of content printing so many books under the same historical guidelines had made Katherine filling most of the pages with lewd and inappropriate sexual content. I am not a prude and can enjoy romantic and well written erotic books, but this book was
not well written and contained too much crude and offensive content. All of the previous brooch series had a beautiful love story, and none of them had to go into graphic sexual detail.

I was even questioning if Katherine even wrote this book, and thought someone else hijacked her loyal following. I was so disappointed.

Katherine Lowry Logan has outdone herself!!

Best Brooch yet!! Wow, wow, wow!!! I was riveted from the first page (or "listen", I guess). Have loved all of the Brooch books, and read most more than once. Ms Lowry Logan's writing style has gotten better with each book. I found this one impossible to stop listening to, would have listened straight through except for that pesky job thing....

Billie / Penny was a perfect addition to the warrior women of the clan. There was just enough history, a good solid romance, with plenty of give and take and great backstory, advancing the mythology of the brooches and updating the rest of the families' lives as well. Plus a wonderful continuation to Pete and Sophia's story.

But the main thing for me was just the compelling story telling. During the chapters detailing the Battle of New Orleans, I literally sat on the sofa staring at my phone, heart racing, goose bumps on arms, "watching" the battle play out. I could see every detail it was told so well. And the development of Jean Lafitte's character and the way he was woven into the plot was perfect.

Also, liked the dual narration a lot, thought it added further to the story. Can't wait for the next installment!!!
