Publisher's Summary

Christopher Marlow's play based on the Faust story of a man selling his soul to the devil, has fascinated and divided critics throughout the ages since its first performance in Elizabethan England. The central character's thirst for knowledge and power throws up essential questions of morality, life and death.

Compulsive listening as this exceptionally brilliant play of verse and prose is finely executed by Frank Silvera and cast.

Please note: This is the original, shorter version of the play.

Funny and tragic

A great little play, but the recording leaves much to be desired. The sound quality itself isnt great, but the real problem for me is that it's hard to tell the different actors apart. For example, there are two characters who talk to faustus throughout the play--one tempting him to do ill, the other, good. Yet, nothing in the recording explains who these character are, and if I didn't know already, I wouldn't have picked it up from context (obviously on stage this wouldn't be a problem). What's worse however, is that--due to the recording it's hard to tell their voices apart!

So, should you buy this? Personally, it's a great play, so I would say yes. BUT, if you do, read a summary of the play first so you can follow what's going on.
