Publisher's Summary

Orphaned as a child, Mike Bastian was taken in by the legendary outlaw Ben Curry, and raised and trained to take over his empire of crime. Today, Mike is the quickest draw and the stealthiest tracker around, and Ben Curry is getting ready to retire. To test Mike's wings, he has set him a task: the planning and execution of a gold-train robbery.

Now, as he prepares for his first criminal job, Mike must decide whether to follow the path that has been set before him or to carve out a destiny of his own. If he assumes the position of gang leader, he will face deadly competition from within Curry's band, but if he refuses, he may not be allowed to leave the pack alive. The dilemma is further complicated when he falls for Drusilla, Ben Curry's real daughter, who knows nothing of her father's career. Either way Mike chooses, a showdown is in store.

Entertaining

The story is classic L’Amour, always enjoyable. Jim Gough has the perfect voice for a western although I was quite disappointed in the number of errors and obvious patches. He would read a sentence, realize he’d erred, then repeat it correctly without bothering to stop and re-do the recording. The audiobook contains both the error and the correction, and these errors increased toward the end of the book. At other times, a single sentence is read with completely different background acoustics than the sentences on either side of it, indicating it was dubbed in after the fact. In short, good story, good voice, but definite lack of professionalism.

TO MANY BREAKS

This is a good story, but the mistakes in the reading, break, backup and re-read. I found this disruption in the story irritating

Good story narrator was the absolute pits

A fun read but the narrator made so many reading errors it was distracting definitely would not recommend this book for purchase not worth the money averaged out there was probably an error every five minutes that’s how pitiful it was

Terrible recording

Full of repeats, restarts, mispronunciation, and corrections. Almost no editing involved. Places where recordings were inserted don’t match the sound of the original. One of the least professional recordings that I’ve ever heard on audible.

Very irritating reader

Very irritating to hear over-dramatized reading and poor editing of the voice. You hear every time the reader says a line, then corrects it. People should expect more!
