Books 4-6 felt like a repeat of 1-3.
Thats not necessarily a bad thing but Battle cant seem to ever catch a break. I would have liked for there to be some time for some peace as everything achieved in book 3 is quickly tossed out in book 4. Big story archs had quick conclusions which made it seem almost too easy.

THE best writer of post apocalyptic dystopian stories.
The fun part is this story is nestled into a Texas thrown back 100yrs after suffering an excruciating kick in the balls post apocalypse. I loved the idea of throwing outlaws, posies and solo gun slingers into the mix. This was utterly a different take on the usual PA scenario. What genius! I listened non stop from book one to book six. Took me a week to complete and I never once regretted buying this series!

Interesting story
If you want to read this series in chronological order, the listen to Legacy, book 6, before books 4 and 5. It makes no sense that it was put in the order it was. The ending of Legacy is verbatim the beginning of Rising.

Books 1-5 were awesome
I loved the characters and the story in books 1-3. But, SPOILER ALERT: All but one dies in book 4, so its a whole new story. 4&5 were still very good, but 6 was a flasback to the childhood of one of the characters. The whole thing. You already knew her story and while it was 'cute' to know her background, there was no excitment or suspense because you already knew how it was going to end. I still enjoyed it though.

Well written, positive in a challenging world
This type of novel is interesting as the hero overcomes challenges—and this group of books is of great value sharing three such accounts. I like how the author does not drop to bad language or sexually explicit content but fully describes the incredibly difficult world the humanly imperfect heroes deal with. The plot is not overly deep, and the concepts around the fall of the world not overly belabored—rather the focus is on how each person achieves based on their determination to achieve their perception of good—or how each criminal falls to less-than animal status to scratch some primitive itch...and usually lives just long enough to regret that flaw. I enjoyed reading these and will look for other works of both author and reader. The reader was not one that adds substantially to the book, but never detracts from the story. Key voices remain static, and others are not memorable so are easily reused after their initial owner is pushing up daisies... I’ll look for other books he reads. Enjoy this like enjoying good John Wayne movies.
