Publisher's Summary

After centuries of traveling the continent of Kita, and fighting the extra-dimensional monsters known as Riftspawn, mage Lyuc is tired and ready to back away from the concerns of humanity.

But the world isn't done with him yet.

While traveling with a merchant caravan, Lyuc encounters Yan, an Unnamed, the lowest caste in society. Though Yan has nothing but his determination and spirit, he reminds Lyuc what passion and desire feel like. While wild magic, a snarky, shape-shifting, gender-fluid companion, and the plots of men and monsters seem determined to keep Lyuc from laying down his burden, only Yan's inimitable spirit tempts him to hang on for another lifetime or so.

All Yan wants is to earn the sponsorship of a guild so he can rise above his station, claim a place in society, and build the family he never had.

After hundreds of years of self-imposed penance, all Lyuc wants is Yan.

If they can survive prejudice, bandits, mercenaries, monsters, and nature itself, they might both get their wish...and maybe even live happily ever after.

Wow, this was good quality LGBT Fantasy

The plot was very interesting, it held my attention throughout till the end. I liked it, very much, it was not predictable. The story is about an eccentric traveling pair of friends. They have been traveling for a 1000 years across the world fighting the extra-dimensional monsters known as Riftspawn.

The pair consists of a mage, who is tired and old and experiencing melancholy. His traveling companion is a shapeshifter who prefers the shape of a horse.

While traveling they meet a young man and basically saves him from cruel indentured service. The three continues to travel and the mage who is slowly falling in love with the servant becomes younger and attractive by the day. They have some frisky escapades and this pulls the mage out of his depression giving him new hope and strength to continue their travels. They have a HEA. I see there is another book to follow; The Priest. I will definitely listen to it as soon as its available

The book does have some original elements. I loved the friendly banter, between the traveling companions. It's expected, they have been traveling together for a 1000 years.
The story was truly easy to listen to. I did not find any holes or unanswered questions. The characters were truly heroes from the start and I fell in love with them immediately.

The world building was good and I was able to visualize the countryside, wagons and ancient cities.
There was a few sexy times and they were warm, with moderately explicit sensuality. Physical details are described, but much is also left to the reader’s imagination.

The narrator is new to me. I will definitely look for more of his work. He did fantastic dialogues and I was able to distinguish the different characters easily. He has a beautiful voice and it easy to listen to him. His breathing and cadence is perfect. Nothing irritated me, it was smooth listening all the way.
I recommend this audiobook for fantasy lovers.
Happy Listening.
