Publisher's Summary

For years, government bureaucrats have been looking for ways to destroy small businesses. With coronavirus, they finally had their chance.

In 2020, the American economy suffered the biggest financial collapse in history. But while Main Street suffered like never before, the stock market continued to reach new highs. How could this be? The answer is that government had slapped oppressive restrictions on small businesses while propping up Wall Street and engineering a historic consolidation of power and wealth.

This isn’t a new problem. During the last financial crisis, Washington bailed out large banks, saying they were “too big to fail.” When the federal government finally pushed out the CARES Act in 2020, it clearly favored the wealthy and well-connected, showing that small businesses were too small to matter. People across the political spectrum constantly complain about the tyranny of big business, and they’re not wrong. However, too many think government is the solution. In reality, government is the problem.

In The War on Small Business, entrepreneur Carol Roth unveils the many abuses of power inflicted on small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. Small business owners were thrown in jail for trying to make a living. Individual rights were discarded. Big government did what it does best—intentionally protect the rich and powerful.

This is the most underreported story coming out of the pandemic. The government chose winners and losers, who would thrive and who would fight to survive, based on not data or science, but based on clout and connections. This enabled the government, with the aid of the Federal Reserve, to oversee the largest wealth transfer in history from Main Street to Wall Street. The issues started long ago and continue today with a highly tilted playing field that favors those “in the club” to the detriment of the average Americans.

This book is about the Davids vs. the Goliaths and the decentralization that can help the small, independent businesses and individuals participate in wealth creation.

If Americans don’t wake up and stop it, politicians will continue to produce policies that intensify their war on small business and individuals and all that stands in the way of centralized power and control.

2 books in 1

This book is billed as the history of the war on small business that happened under lockdowns and other government mandates. It certainly is that, but also a whole primer on beginning economics and the importance of individual liberties.

I don't understand why audible always gets men to read serious books written by badass ladies. We don't need a male voice to take the ideas serious.

Instant Classic

Carol Roth expertly and thoroughly details the severe economic implications caused by central planners (particularly those in the United States government) during the coronavirus pandemic. Listening to this audiobook was very reminiscent of listening to Thomas Sowell's books which she references multiple times. It was incredibly cathartic to read and learn from someone who understood and could put into context what has been obvious, but obfuscated by media and government: i.e. the government took advantage of the coronavirus panic to consolidate wealth and power amongst the previously wealthy and powerful at the intentional behest of small businesses and the middle class. Further, she goes into some details about the general pitfalls of socialism and central planning and debunks the fallacies of emotional, progressive politics and their unintended consequences as compared with free market capitalism, which doesn't necessarily sound as nice at face value, but always results in better outcomes for all, particularly those intended to be helped by progressive policies.

The narration is spot on, easy to listen to, and the reader clearly understands the tone of Ms. Roth's writing and where to place emphasis.

I truly can't recommend this book enough, though I will try.

The title says EXACTLY what this book is about!

This book is a "must read." It is startling how the Federal, State, and local governments used the pandemic to shift wealth from small businesses to large and centralized companies. Carol's book goes in-depth into the governments' continuing efforts to hamper and destroy small businesses. The book is very well documented and researched. This book underscore the issues that businesses face in the United States of America, not from just competition, but from the governments as well. The only detractor from this audiobook is that Carol did not narrate it herself. This is not a comment about Chris Henry Coffey's narration, it is great, it is just that Carol brings a presence with her and her communication has panache. Even without her narration, this book is FANTASTIC and I highly recommend this book.

Great Book lots of information

This book reminded me of the book called The Great Reset. This book helps dive deeper into explanations of the Great Reset. It also helped me understand more of what political moves tha are happening around me and how that is effecting small businesses.

Amazing simple truth about a Pandemic.

Again I’m able to find a book that says what I would have written if I wrote AND published a book. I’m actually praying that more people read and grok this book.
