Publisher's Summary

From NYT bestselling author Brent Weeks comes the first novel in his breakout fantasy trilogy in which a young boy trains under the city's most legendary and feared assassin, Durzo Blint.

For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art—and he is the city's most accomplished artist.

For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned to judge people quickly—and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.

But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics—and cultivate a flair for death.

What the critics say

"What a terrific story! I was mesmerized from start to finish. Unforgettable characters, a plot that kept me guessing, non-stop action and the kind of in-depth storytelling that makes me admire a writer's work."—Terry Brooks

"Kylar is a wonderful character—sympathetic and despicable, cowardly and courageous, honorable and unscrupulous...a breathtaking debut!"—Dave Duncan

Finally a narrator I can listen to!!!!

I've wanted to listen to the night angel trilogy for so long however I didn't because the the previously released versions had an shit narrator. Simon Vance is amazing going to listen to the rest of the series

Fast paced and wonderful reading.

Thoroughly enjoyed this story, it was darker then I had expected, but Simon Vance somehow made it bearable and enjoyable work through. I wish Simon read every book I listened to. He has a way of giving every character a voice and mannerisms that make them immediately identifiable and unique.

New narrator breathes life into old series.

This series was recommended to me years ago but I gave up listening to it because the narrator was garbage. He sounded like a robotic male version of seri. This new version with Simon Vance is much better.

Simon Vance was amazing as always. Story wasn’t

I started this book with no expectations and it wasn’t that great. Story line gets a little too muddled with unnecessary politics and takes away from the base narrative which was pretty great. Almost didn’t finish the book it got so boring.
