Publisher's Summary

Gary Bruce is a slacker of epic loserness. Can’t keep a job. His friends are as bad as he is. No girlfriend. No direction.

Gary Bruce is also a werewolf.

Desperate for any kind of success, Gary decides to out himself on YouTube. The moment this ordinary guy goes full-on fur, fangs, and claws, the world can’t get enough of him. He’s the biggest thing on social media, he’s on every talk show, book and movie deals fall in his lap, and for the first time in his life he gets invited to all the best parties.

But celebrity is a special kind of voracious monster. And when Gary’s star begins to lose its luster, he has to decide how far he’ll go to stay relevant in a world that discards has-beens in favor of the next big thing.

Fortunately, Gary has a plan....

Clever, Humorous "What-If"

What If a genuine werewolf decided to "come out of the closet" in our modern Social Media world?
Jonathan Mayberry takes that idea and runs with it. The story is quite realistic, there is a genuine attempt to portray the angst that comes with being a "freak", the almost-parody portrayal of online culture is perceptive, and the commentary on the exploitation of fame is incredibly mature (Agents, Lawyers, and Crackpots make an appearance, for example). Additionally (to his credit), Mayberry's largely PG-13 exploration hints at some gory by the end of the story.
Unfortunately, Mayberry makes his protagonist ('Gary Bruce') a stereotypical teenaged misfit loser (painfully unpopular in school, of course🙄) - and drops waaay too many pop culture references (e.g. being interviewed on 'The Joe Rogan Experience').. dooming this story to total irrelevance in about 10 years.

Ray Porter and (briefly) Dina Pearlman are fantastic - delivering the text rather than reading it. The tongue-in-cheek performance from Porter is notable in particular.

This short offering is worthy of 8/10 stars. It's definitely entertaining (and good for a few chuckles at the very least) if you can listen to this prior to, say, 2026. If you can get it for free - as offered with the 'Plus' initiative - do not hesitate to give it a listen - this is a brilliant way to spend a couple of hours
..but if they ask for money, feel free to pass.
