Publisher's Summary

Wall-E meets Hatchet in this New York Times bestselling illustrated middle grade novel from Caldecott Honor winner Peter Brown

Can a robot survive in the wilderness?

When robot Roz opens her eyes for the first time, she discovers that she is all alone on a remote, wild island. She has no idea how she got there or what her purpose is—but she knows she needs to survive. After battling a violent storm and escaping a vicious bear attack, she realizes that her only hope for survival is to adapt to her surroundings and learn from the island's unwelcoming animal inhabitants.

As Roz slowly befriends the animals, the island starts to feel like home—until, one day, the robot's mysterious past comes back to haunt her.

From bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator Peter Brown comes a heartwarming and action-packed novel about what happens when nature and technology collide.

Fantastic story and well read

We listened to this story in the car over the course of our week. Both of my kids (12 and 7) asked to listen to in every time we hopped into the car. We all thoroughly enjoyed the story and performance - myself included. I would recommend this book to any kids over 5.

Too much background sounds

The story was really good and my 10 year old son loved it; however, the music and sound effects in the background were often too loud and distracting.

Touching story

My five and nine year old kids and myself were all enthralled with this book. A touching story about finding family and friendship in unlikely places, the differences that give us strength and our shared humanity. A beautiful example of children’s literature’s ability to tackle complex subjects with grace and simplicity.

Loved it!

Wow! I’ve got to say this was a favourite for my kids and I! Every time we would drive somewhere they’d ask to put it on. Very well read with the different voices. Look forward to hearing the next one!

Fantastic! My class really enjoyed listening!

The woman (Kate Atwater) who read the story did a fantastic job. She did lots of very distinctive voices for the various characters which led to our enjoyment of the story!
