Story
Bay thought the worst was behind her when she modified the memories of four tempestuous teenagers bent on stealing magic and wielding it in a tyrannical manner. Unfortunately for her, when one of those teenagers ends up dead behind the inn her father owns, things start to spiral. The girl’s death is ritual in fashion, bloody runes painted on the trees, and Bay can’t wrap her head around exactly what has happened. Then things get worse.

Publisher's Summary
Bay Winchester is living the high life. She’s engaged, owns her own business, and is undergoing a magical transformation, complete with growing powers at every turn. All that changes when a local teenager goes missing at a festival and nobody knows who took her.
The girl’s friends saw the abduction, but the description they provide doesn’t match anybody in town. The only other witness is Marcus, her cousin Thistle’s boyfriend, and he was seriously injured in the attack and can’t provide additional information.
Bay is determined to solve the case, although she’s not sure where to look. On top of that, her normal partner in crime is otherwise engaged, which means her mother has decided to tag along for the ride. Bay is the sort of witch who is willing to put herself on the line to save those who need saving. Unfortunately, this time around, the answers she finds only lead to more questions. On top of that, her great-aunt Willa and cousin Rosemary have arrived in town out of nowhere and they seem to be harboring their own secrets, and it’s something that could change the entire trajectory of Bay’s life.
The Winchesters are loyal, and it’s going to take all of them working together to solve this one. It seems new magic is afoot, and whoever is wielding it is deadly. Magic, mystery, and mayhem are about to collide. Batten down the hatches. The Winchesters are about to take you on a wild ride.

Slow moving
The story is so drawn out that it is hard to keep listening. It would be a good story if not for that. There is a lot of repetition in the narrative. Love the relationship between the main characters but that is all. The narrator wasn't very good either. The females all seemed the same and the male voices were just not good.

Annoying Narration
I love Amanda M. Lee’s books, but I’m so tired of listening to this series narrated as if all the voices were done by Betty Boop. I’ve actually avoided buying the latest one for just that reason.
I don’t know what accent Hollis McCarthy has, but I have never heard it used by anyone other than her in anything produced after 1940. It absolutely is nothing used in Michigan, where this series is set.
The accent is so incredibly cloying. It’s like baby talk. I have tried to get used to it in this series and one of Kristin Painter’s, but I just can’t anymore. I’m not buying anymore audio books from any authors, no matter how much I enjoy their writing, if they are narrated by her. It’s just too painful.

Loved this new addition to series
I really love this book. It is a great addition to the series. I have always enjoyed interactions between Bay and Landon, but in this book the chemistry is really front and center. I snort laughed at aunt Tillie. I am really looking forward to seeing how they handle a certain someone who was back in town. No spoilers. Highly recommend the book.

Worst Book of the Series
The whining of the main character totally took away from any plot this book had. The main character of Bay comes off more like a teenager than a 30 year old woman. Even the narrator makes her sound like teenager rather than a grown woman. I skipped whole chapters to avoid the whines. The plot is totally lost here. Here's hoping Hollis McCarthy allows her character to mature and gets back to plot points rather than the ridiculous back-biting and immature characters that a teenager could love, but anyone older can't get past. If not, I will be returning any future books and taking this author off my favorites list.
