The narrator was great, story was compelling and it humanized and inhuman time in history.

struggled to finish.. didnt enjoy narrator and slow reading and accents. husband refused to listen to because of narrator. story jumps around and hard to follow at times.

I found it very thought provoking and compelling. The perspectives of the three women were not ones that I have encountered before and their relationships with each other, the men in their lives and their children are complex and filled with love, joy, pain, sorrow and fear. The details of post-war Germany are comprehensive and brought to life through the experiences of the characters. A lot of mystery, secrets and unanswered questions to ponder about. I would highly recommend this to anyone who likes to read deeply about characters or who is interested in the time period.
