Publisher's Summary

Laugh-out-loud, deeply insightful, and emotion-filled essays from multi-talented actress, comedian, podcaster, and writer Casey Wilson.

Casey Wilson has a lot on her mind and she isn’t afraid to share. In this dazzling collection, each essay skillfully constructed and brimming with emotion, she shares her thoughts on the joys and vagaries of modern-day womanhood and motherhood, introduces the not-quite-typical family that made her who she is, and persuasively argues that lowbrow pop culture is the perfect lens through which to examine human nature.

Whether she’s extolling the virtues of eating in bed, processing the humiliation over her father’s late in life perm, mourning her mother's passing, or revealing her patented method for keeping the mystery alive in a marriage, Casey is witty, candid, and full of poignant and funny surprises. Humorous dives into her obsessions and areas of personal expertise - self-help, nice guys, cool girls (not her), and how to receive visitors in the bath - are matched by touching meditations on female friendship, anger, grief, motherhood, and identity.

Listening to The Wreckage of My Presence is like spending time with a close friend - a deeply passionate, full-tilt, joyous, excessive, compulsive, shameless, hungry-for-it-all, loyal, cheerleading friend. A friend who is ready for any big feelings that come her way - and isn’t afraid to embrace them.

Laugh out loud funny

I’ve been listening to Casey for years on Bitch Sesssh and have been anticipating the release of this book. She has not disappointed! Wow! Laughing out loud. So grateful Casey did her own audiobook - could listen to her for hours which I am currently doing!

Loved!

Love her and related to so much of this book. Her honesty normalized a few things for me that I had never heard anyone speak about before, such a gift. Also, who doesn’t want to hear the author read their own memwah?!? Audiobook all. the. way. - up there for me with Bossy Pants.

A-mah-zing

A beautiful, funny, engaging book. I genuinely laughed out loud. It’s a love letter to friends, family, life and I loved every second. Casey’s narration 100% enhances the book. Get this book. You won’t be sorry.

So perfect.

I have listened to so many hours of Casey talking and making me laugh that I feel in some ways like I know her. This book showed so much more.

So honest, hilarious and heartbreaking.

I never write reviews ....

I listened to this book in one day...I have young two boys and definitely turned up the volume as they asked me questions about dinner. I laughed out loud as my family looked at me oddly with one ear phone in pretending to watch Star Wars. I have been a fan of Casey since Happy Endings , then when that was cancelled found her in Marry Me and then that was cancelled WTF. These were favorites of mine, although I am more than okay not being the target market of networks; I was pleasantly surprised she was now the host of my favorite podcast Bitch Sesh, it’s like watching my favorite garbage ( Emmy deserving) programs with my favorite friends that I’ve never met. When I heard about this book on the podcast I knew I would buy it (bc duh read above) but have only liked one book written by a celebrity, Open Book Jess Simpson. This book is nothing like that .... but just as good. Picture your best friend telling you hilarious stories in a David Sedaris meets Superficial by Andy Cohen. I love her love story and her thoughts on losing her mom suddenly. Casey is simply so likeable and so hilarious. But this book
