With color, irony, and sensitivity, Pulitzer Prize winner Annie Dillard illuminates the dedication, absurdity, and daring that is the writer’s life. As it probes and exposes, examines and analyzes, The Writing Life offers deeper insight into one of the most mysterious of professions.

This book is beautifully written. It is dense, but easy to get into and enjoy. Both an example and a guide to aspiring writers. The performance fits the material.

Literary and practical

I could not get into the story because the narrator rushes from sentence to sentence. It’s not that I don’t understand her, she speaks very clearly, but I don’t have time to think about each sentence, and this is the kind of book that is best read calmly.

Narrator feels rushed

I was glad this was offered free from Audible. The writing is memorable of course. I didn't like the narrator so much. She reads well but the tone was overdone and pretentious. a softer approach would've made the writing shine more.
