Publisher's Summary

A New York Times best seller!

Cruel Prince meets A Court of Thorns and Roses in this sexy, action-packed fantasy about a girl who is caught between two treacherous faerie courts and their dangerously seductive princes.

Brie hates the Fae and refuses to have anything to do with them, even if that means starving on the street. But when her sister is sold to the sadistic king of the Unseelie court to pay a debt, she'll do whatever it takes to get her back—including making a deal with the king himself to steal three magical relics from the Seelie court.

Gaining unfettered access to the Seelie court is easier said than done. Brie's only choice is to pose as a potential bride for Prince Ronan, and she soon finds herself falling for him. Unwilling to let her heart distract her, she accepts help from a band of Unseelie misfits with their own secret agenda. As Brie spends time with their mysterious leader, Finn, she struggles to resist his seductive charm.

Caught between two dangerous courts, Brie must decide who to trust with her loyalty. And with her heart.

Very entertaining

I quite enjoyed this even though it feels more YA than adult fantasy. I love all things Fae so this was fun and just dark enough to be interesting. Plus I didn’t anticipate 2 out of the 3 the twists at the end. I’m off to read the next book now and am looking forward to more surprises.

Not put downable

Beware- this will suck you in and keep you listening to the end. The very start was a bit shaky, but give it one chapter and you’ll be hooked.

Great performance too. Cannot wait for Book 2.

So-so YA fantasy romance

Dual love interests
Tons of questions
Cliffhanger ending
Deception and lies
The writing quality seemed geared for YA, but the content and language was definitely upper YA. I will still read the second one to answer my questions, but this was not the amazing read I was expecting.

Loved it! A fresh take in the world of Fae

I loved this book! I heard so many good things about this novel and it lived up to its hype. Brie is strong MC, who already makes morally grey decisions when we meet her and continues to struggle with the dilemma of saving her sister at all costs. Although Brie makes some very wrong decisions, they never felt like really dumb decisions for just plot fodder, but realistic bad choices given with what she was working with. Brie continues to be tempted by the white-haired Bash or the dark-haired Finn and both are neither perfect, but I had a clear preference for the latter. I also came to the conclusion that I have a new favourite trope: drunk/high out of your mind and spilling your truth and be overly amorous (but also being safe). Can’t wait to start the next book.

Twisted Betrayals and Broken Hearts

Oh the betrayals in this book! Oof! And that ending. Lord! Everyone calls this book YA but I'm definitely leaning more towards NA. It's somewhere in the middle!

This book had a ton of references in it to other stories such as Cinderella, Snow White and more. It is a story about a girl whose sister is stolen by th fae. When she goes to the faerie realm she discovers huge family secrets about her mother and herself. Not to mention meeting a mysterious man who visits her dreams. A long time friend is also found in this realm with a hidden identity. With a mad king holding her sister and her own betrayal the key to getting her back, Brie must navigate the seelie court and her heart to gain her sisters freedom.

Tropes!

✅ Love triangle
✅ "I'm not like other girls" 🤢
✅ Bonded mates
✅ Found family

The storytelling in this book was great and I really enjoyed how the author enveloped the twists and turns of the story. The FMC can be a bit frustrating to read though, she overhears a lot of key information that she just conveniently "forgets" or doesn't pay attention too. As the reader I found myself guessing where plotlines were going and being right a lot of the time. The anger from Brie at the end gave me shivers and I can't wait to start the next book to see what fresh hell she brings down on everyone who betrayed her. I am 100% team Finn to be clear. I don't do cinnamon roll guys and *you know who* was always too good to be true. Not that Finn didn't have his own betrayal but the lengths he went to hide his deception are nowhere near the same in my opinion.

Bring on book two! 👏

Overall:
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Spice 🌶️ (one spicy scene that is decently explicit and one HOT shower scene that involves an overindulgence of spiked faerie wine 🥵)

A whole lot of nothing

This story has dragged on and on without anything actually happening. And don’t get me started with the infuriating MC. How can someone be so stupid, weak willed, easily manipulated, and just darn right annoying? I’m going to finish this book but I will not be reading the next one. Waste of a credit.

Meh.

It wasn’t terrible, but I feel like it was every YA book I’ve ever read.

The performance is intolerable

It’s almost like the narrator has trouble reading. The sentences are stilted and all of her inflection is off. Just read it in print. Not worth forcing yourself through.

Confusing and dull.

Went into this with little expectation. Listened to it at 1.5 speed and that definitely helped the narration, however the writing lacked a lot of depth and detail into the characters. Definitely not a slow burn romance as there is little to no romance between Flynn and Brie until the shower scene (which is more sexual than romantic) how can there be when we get like to no interaction with them one on one. Sebastian and her romance is a little more understandable but so back and forth with conflict that it gets tiring by the last portion of the book.

THE ULTIMATE FAERIE BOOK!

𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁’𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜’𝗺 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲.
~ 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗩𝗼𝘄𝘀
🔥
When a book has Seelie and Unseelie faeries, it is loosely based on a classic fairytale, has references of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, political intrigue, morally grey characters and… a protagonist who ADORES coffee AND has red (aka Ariel) hair, well, it’s certain I’m gonna ADORE it, too.

I had received 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐕𝐨𝐰𝐬 almost a year ago, through @beaconbookbox, and even though my Dad had suggested I should read it immediately, I put it aside for a while, for only the stars know why.

What a naive, little human I was…

The book was the PERFECT read for the transition from summer to autumn, with all the whimsical magic of the Faerie Lands, the schemes of the Courts almost palpable as I was turning the pages and the characters, both main and secondary, feeling very, very real!

And that’s what made this book unique to me, aside from its fast pacing, of course.
The fact that the characters were so very well-written, they had depth, insecurities, hopes and fears, and, all of them, seemed like the villain in someone else’s story!

There were twists and turns every other second and, with every revelation, I didn’t know which side to take.
This made the book all the more interesting to me.

Even the love triangle aspect of the story was so well-executed that, despite this being one of my least favorite tropes in a romance (as that’s the subplot of the book), I still fell invested and I wanted to know which Faerie Prince would win Brie’s heart.

5 golden stars for this whimsical beauty, which I suggest you read, if you haven’t done so already. ✨

I left a longer review on the second book of this series, but I definitely recommend! I loved it so much and really wish there was a 3rd (or more) book! I couldn’t listen fast enough lol

I enjoyed this

Somewhat of a Cinderella retell but with fae and chaos and deceit. Who’s lying? Who’s telling the truth?

Holy crap!

I absolutely love the ending! This book has it all, love, hate, magic, betrayal, curses, fae, humans, bonding, sex, goblins. It was so entertaining and kept me on my toes the whole time. I read this in two seatings! A great job. Can’t wait to read the next!
