Publisher's Summary
Legendary recording artist Mia X was the first lady of multi-platinum record label No Limit Records. Her cookbook/memoir is filled with memories from her childhood and all the way through her musical career, as well as sharing some of her delicious recipes.
The cookbook/memoir is an ode to her late grandmother, whom she fondly calls Mamaw. Mamaw had a big hand in raising Mia. She had a straightforward lace with (at times) a raw-gritty-cuss-words approach to life.
Things My Grandma Told Me, Things My Grandma Showed Me will have you laughing, crying, quoting Mamaw, and cooking.

Amazing!!!
I love this book soo much. I'm so glad that Mia X narrated her book. Her voice makes you feel like you are family and right at home in New Orleans. This book will bring back memories of your own family and teach you a few lessons that you might have missed. This is a must for every woman. It is an amazing and very necessary addition to the African-American written and oral history. I've already made 2 of her Mamaw's recipes, delicious! I must order a hardcopy because this book is a classic.

Mama Mia Did Dat!
This book was amazing!! I’m going to listen to again and purchase the hard copy as well. Mia X outdid herself. This is such an endearing, real and loving story of family, strength and good food with the added treat of a recipe book all in one. I strongly recommend!

Detailed in every way!
This book was amazing in every aspect! Growing up in the seventh ward in the St. Bernard projects, I can understand and was able to feel a lot of what she was talking about in her book. I had the great opportunity to have her read it to me by using the audible app! I was suggest that anyone who can, does! This book was raw full of emotion laughter and more than anything it showed the love that Mo shared for not only everyone but for her Mia. I am a 46-year-old man who grew up in a St. Bernard project and when I say I laughed and cried while listening to this I am telling the entire truth. Not to mention I will be trying some of these recipes! Mia, you did good with this one and can’t wait to see what happens next! Blessings my sister!

Love, Love, Love!!
This was a great read from the beginning to the end! Listening to the story's reminded me of the good old days in New Orleans with my own grandma before the storm. I must say reading this book made me check myself, my pantry, refrigerator and keep my house tidy. I've used the mac and cheese recipe this past thanksgiving and it was the bomb! I can't wait to try more.

Wisdom for the Ages
This book was an amazing read (listen) Mia X was so lucky to have had the guidance of someone so wise in the ways of the world. Not to say that our families dont provide the support we need but her G-Ma was like a wise old sage who channeled the wisdom of Confucius in a modern day world. With a wit and humor that just doesn't give this book is sure to to please one and all who read / listen to it.
The recipes and the time spent in the kitchen remind me of my own upbringing waking up at 5am and spending time in the kitchen with my aunt while she made sunday dinner, I was always the support never actually learning what she was doing but just watching the magic happen - very different from Mia X who actually absorbed all the moments and translated them into every dish she continues to make till this day. Just a great read!!!
