Story
A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light”. But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

With 12 hellhounds after her, pregnant Charley Davidson takes refuge at the only place she thinks they can't get to her: the grounds of an abandoned convent. But after months of being cooped up there, Charley is ready to pop. Both metaphorically and literally, since she is now roughly the size of a beached whale. Fortunately a new case has captured her attention, one that involves a murder on the very grounds the team has taken shelter upon.

Running a small-town police force in the mountains of New Mexico should be a smooth, carefree kind of job. Sadly, full-time Sheriff - and even fuller-time coffee guzzler - Sunshine Vicram, didn't get that memo. All Sunshine really wants is one easygoing day. You know, the kind that starts with coffee and a donut (or three) and ends with takeout pizza and a glass of chardonnay (or seven). Turns out, that’s about as easy as switching to decaf. (What kind of people do that? And who hurt them?)

As a part-time PI and full-time grim reaper, Charley Davidson has asked a lot of questions throughout her life: Why can I see dead people? Who is the hot supernatural entity following me? How do I get gum out of my sister's hair before she wakes up? But "how do I trap not one malevolent god but three?" was never among them. Until now. Charley Davidson, Grim Reaper extraordinaire, is pissed. She’s been kicked off the earthly plane for eternity - which is the appropriate amount of time to make a person stark-raving mad. But someone’s looking out for her, and she’s allowed to return after a mere hundred years in exile. Is it too much to hope for that not much has changed? Apparently it is. Bummer.

Paranormal private eye. Grim reaper extraordinaire. Whatever. Charley Davidson is back in Darynda Jones' Third Grave Dead Ahead! Yes, she did imprison him for all eternity, but come on. How is she supposed to solve a missing persons case, deal with an ego-driven doctor, calm her curmudgeonly dad, and take on a motorcycle gang hellbent on murder when the devil’s son just won’t give up?

Lorelei King is the bomb
#Audible1
This story is a great addition to the Charley Davidson series. It was very funny and a light "read". I have to say, Lorelei King is absolutely amazing at presenting the story. She truly brings all the characters to life and her expression is just bang-on. I am not sure I would've enjoyed the story as much had I actually read a paper copy.

I love Charley Davidson!!!
What did you love best about Third Grave Dead Ahead?
Pretty much everything.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Third Grave Dead Ahead?
The beginning chapters where Charley is sleep deprived.
What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
So much! Lorelei King is one of my top two favorite narrators. She does an excellent job!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, it definitely had me laughing! I don't know that I've ever laughed harder while reading (listening to) a book.
Any additional comments?
I've said it before, but I'll say it again: I LOVE this series!! I just can't get enough of Charley & company. In the beginning of this book, Charley is almost delirious from not sleeping for almost two weeks straight, and I have to say that it was maybe my favorite piece of fiction ever. It was brilliant!! I laughed and laughed. I just love Darynda Jones' style of writing. I love the way Charley thinks. I'm a huge fan of the Stephanie Plum series, but I have to say that I love this one even more.
The cast of characters is just amazing! I love every one of them. I can't wait to see where this series goes from here. I'm so sad for Garrett. I feel so bad for Charley, and I'm frustrated with Reyes. (he better step it up) I definitely hope things start looking up for Charley and I can't wait to learn more about "what she's capable of."
Oh, and the mystery was slightly predictable, but that's never the main draw for me when it comes to these types of books.

Loved the first two, but not this one!
Love Charlie - even though she is less grim reaper and more a sassy version of The Ghost Whisperer. Love the narrator - she does a terrific job. All of the books so far are a bit heavy on the (kind of repetitive) earth-shattering sex stuff, which is a bit much but I can deal. However, having Charlie suddenly feel scared of Reyes when he "kidnaps" her is just more than I can buy: suddenly she's all concerned that he's a "convicted murderer" when up until this point she is defending his deed as pretty much a righteous kill? Sorry, it is way too far out of character for me.

flippin' fantastic!
if you haven't discovered this series you need to start it ASAP! the books just keep getting better and better! "Third Grave Dead Ahead" is the best one so far. all of the characters draw you in. it is a unique paranormal story with mystery, terrific dialog, humor, and super sexy too! i finished this one in two days, i would have finished it sooner if it weren't for the pesky need for food and i had to go to work to buy the food..vicious cycle...this is sooo worth getting, you won't be disappointed! The narration is really good too. Lorelei King is very good at bringing all of the characters to life.

This book made me sad.
Where does Third Grave Dead Ahead rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
In my top 20 (I have over 90).
What was one of the most memorable moments of Third Grave Dead Ahead?
If I told you that I would spoil it. I was very sad though - I cried.
What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I love Lorelei King. If I'm not certain I should get a book - and I see she's the one reading it - it'll convince me to buy it. Even if I was learning towards no. She brings life to the characters.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
A little less sure, and a little more power.
Any additional comments?
As stated in the title, this book made me sad. Not because it was disappointing, but I truly felt for Charlie and the loss she had to endure through out the book. I feel this one was a bit darker than the other two. It'll be interesting to see how Charlie handles everything in the next book. I just want to hug her.

Third time is the charm
This is one of my favorite series. It is excellently written and narrated. You don't have to read the entire series but I would strongly recommend it. The characters are wonderful and very likeable. The story is interesting with enough twist and turns to keep you turning pages. The story itself is original and thoughtful. The narrator is perfect and brings everyone to life. If I could I would give it 10 stars. I can't say enough good things about this series and this book.

A Grim Reaper who names her breasts
I have listened to the previous books in the series and had liked the main Character in the past but am finding her to be less and less likeable. I can't put my finger on what it is. Naming her boobs "Danger" and "Will Robinson" is just moronic. Not funny at all. There were other things she was naming along the way which had the same effect. Made her sound like a dumb girl. I thought the point of these books was that she was supposed to be a sort of Kick butt female sleuth character. She seems to end up being injured or involved in things due to her stupidity more than anything. And the abrupt end was extremely unsatisfying. It felt like the writer just gave up and didn't bother to conclude anything. Obviously holding out for the next book in the series. I'm getting very tired of being strung along by Authors so they can sell more and more books. Tell me a good story. One that I can read and is concluded within the novel. If you wrote a series of novels that were better stand alone books, I wouldn't feel so annoyed, I think.
On the up side, the narrator was very good. As she has been in anything I've heard her read. Very talented lady.
Not sure I'll read the next book in the series. I feel like I'm reading schlock written to pay the bills instead of to entertain the reader. It's very disheartening.

Not time well spendt
Would you try another book from Darynda Jones and/or Lorelei King?
No
Has Third Grave Dead Ahead turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
How could the performance have been better?
Hard to give a good performance with weak writing
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment
Any additional comments?
I picked this book because it was promoted as humorous. The storyline is slow and does not even rate a chuckle. The writing is childish and unimaginative.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Pacing...When reading a book I sometimes go to fast to really appreciate all of the details.
Lorelei Kings voice is a great match for the charactor of Charlie Davidson.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
