About this listen
This Bright Future is a raw and unfiltered journey into the life and mind of Bobby Hall, who emerged from the wreckage of a horrifically abusive childhood to become an era-defining artist of our tumultuous age.
A self-described orphan with parents, Bobby Hall began life as Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, the only child of an alcoholic, mentally ill mother on welfare and an absent, crack-addicted father. After enduring seventeen years of abuse and neglect, Bobby ran away from home and—with nothing more than a discarded laptop and a ninth-grade education—he found his voice in the world of hip-hop and a new home in a place he never expected: the untamed and uncharted wilderness of the social media age.
In the message boards and livestreams of this brave new world, Bobby became Logic, transforming a childhood of violence, anger, and trauma into music that spread a resilient message of peace, love, and positivity. His songs would touch the lives of millions, taking him to dizzying heights of success, where the wounds of his childhood and the perils of Internet fame would nearly be his undoing.
A landmark achievement in an already remarkable career, This Bright Future “is just like the author—fearless, funny, and full of heart” (Ernest Cline, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Ready Player One) and looks back on Bobby’s extraordinary life with lacerating humor and fearless honesty. Heart-wrenching yet ultimately uplifting, this book completes the incredible true story and transformation of a human being who, against all odds, refused to be broken.

Comedian Pierre Novellie was on stage when a heckler suggested he was autistic. Usually, this disruption would be water off a duck's back but two things made this heckler different: first, he was himself autistic. Second, he turned out to be absolutely right. This random encounter led to a diagnosis of autism at the age of 31 that unravelled his world, explained his struggles and answered questions that had bothered him for his entire life: why were the other kids obsessed with Britney Spears instead of The Goon Show? Why don't people ever say what they mean? Why is everyone chewing so loudly?

Marion and Huguette Müller’s family was torn apart when the Nazis invaded France in 1940. After their mother was deported to Auschwitz, the sisters fled to the small Alpine ski resort village of Val d'Isère, where they were rescued by a brave young doctor. Through intrepid reporting and meticulous research, Whitehouse traces the story of the Müller sisters, solving decades-old mysteries in her attempt to deliver both closure and justice. With skill and urgency, Whitehouse raises moral questions at the heart of the tragedy of the Shoah.

A modern story of family, I’ll Come to You chronicles intersecting lives over the course of one year—1995—anchored by the anticipation and arrival of a child. With empathy, insight, and humor, Rebecca Kauffman explores overlapping narratives involving a couple whose struggle to become pregnant has both softened and hardened them; a woman whose husband of forty years has left her for reasons he’s unwilling to share and the man who is now attempting to woo her; and a couple in denial about a looming health crisis as well as their son who is fumbling toward middle age and can’t stop lying.

In A Kid from Marlboro Road, past and present intermingle as family stories are told and retold. The narrative careens between the prior generation’s colorful sojourns in the Bronx and Hell’s Kitchen and the softer world of Gibson, the town on Long Island where they live now. There are scenes in the Rockaways, at Belmont racetrack, and in Montauk. Edward Burns’s buoyant first novel is a bildungsroman, yet out of one boy’s story a collective warmth emerges, a certain kind of American tale, raucous and joyous.

An incredible book
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
Logic has been my #1 favourite artist since I discovered him in 2010 at the age of 12 back in grade 7. Hearing every single one of his songs, watching every interview, listening to every freestyle, to reading both of his books, has been amazing and I truly hold him as a person, and as an artist close to my heart. Anybody that knows me knows how much I love Logic (not in a weird way though lmao). Whenever I was sad, happy, angry, or mad, I knew I could always resort to his music no matter what was going on in my life. He’s the reason I started writing music and currently am about to start recording them professionally.
This book showed me a far deeper level and understanding of Logic and of Bobby that I never thought I’d know. I laughed during this read, I cried, I got angry (at some of his sad stories) and I felt true joy and bliss seeing how far he’s came and to hear stories that I’ve never heard of before. It is truly inspiring and even more so now after buying this book and reading along to this audio book. I hope everybody who read/listened to this book feels similar and I hope it motivates them to become something greater than they realize they can be.
Comparison is the thief of joy, but comparing Bobby’s upbringing to mine, shows me I didn’t have it too bad growing up although there were nights my family didn’t have food and I’d have to eat at a friends house. Sometimes we didn’t have money for bills, but my parents always found a way to make ends meet. It opened my eyes to what the definition of a struggle is and what you really can complain about. I’ve learnt a lot about life through Logics music over the past about 12 years and after reading this book, I’ve learnt even more.
I doubt logic will ever read this but if he does, thank you for everything and I’m extremely thrilled to know that you have the family and life you’ve always wanted and I’m excited to see where life takes you and your family! Seeing you give little Bobby the life that you never had is inspiring beyond words. My upbringing was not that close to yours, but we had a lot of similarities. From mental health issues, seeing drugs and alcohol addiction in my family, both in my immediate family and other relatives, to feeling alone and not having a sense of belonging in this crazy world. I’m 24 now and I am realizing how much I’ve gone through and how much stronger all of it has made me.
This book was incredible and I will probably read it again and listen to the audio book again as well but in the mean time, I’m going to share it to friends to read/listen to who are also true fans of yours who’ve been there during the come up and who are also OG RATTPACK members. I’m also excited for my mom to read this book too and hear you narrate it. She’s heard me talk about you for hours and hours over the years and heard a bunch of your songs (even though she mainly likes country and rock) she still loves your music and she knows I get a lot of my writing skills from your music and what I’ve learned from studying you and other great artists whom you look up to as well.
This book is a 11/10, 6/5 stars, just truly real and raw and unfiltered and I can tell that it’s Bobby talking from the heart and soul and it sounds like he’s speaking to me directly.
Thank you to Bobby for everything and for making me feel like a part of your journey being an OG RATTPACK member and fan and thank you to every single person who has helped him throughout his life so far and who’s helped get him to where he is.
