“We Wore What's Danielle Bernstein Is Giving Us the Modern-Day Sex and the City With New Memoir" (E!)

A revealing (in more ways than one) tell-all from Long Island girl-turned-international fashion influencer, designer, CEO, and tech entrepreneur Danielle Bernstein, the creative genius behind the hit style platform @WeWoreWhat.

Danielle Bernstein spent her youth shopping at discount department stores, getting boozy in suburban backyards, and proposing marriage to every boy she dated. By age 19, she was a college dropout living in a West Village shoebox with three roommates and only six months to prove that her blog, @WeWoreWhat, could become a full blown career...or else board the train back to her mom's house.

Flash forward 10 years. Danielle is more than a famed influencer with over two million followers. She's also a bonafide business woman - a CEO, tech founder, and fashion designer whose living a dream lifestyle that includes all-expense-paid luxury travel to Paris and Positano, skipping the velvet rope, and controlling her own destiny.

Despite these successes, Danielle has never been your typical play-by-the-rules fashionista. She disrupted the fashion industry using her own playbook - one that she's finally ready to share with you, her listeners.

This Is Not a Fashion Story is the down and dirty tale of how a Long Island-born teenager became one of the most recognizable names in fashion. It's a story that proves success isn't about a college degree or how rich your parents are. It's about trusting your gut, knowing when to take risks, and fighting to get what you want in life, love, and business. But above all, it's the story of how a young girl made in the concrete jungle that is New York City - and how you can too.

Thanks, but no.

I surprisingly feel really sad after listening to this. It’s so apparent that the world is run on privilege and money through a (tiny) community of wealthy, loud people born in the right place and time. Although insightful in that regard, I unfortunately can’t recommend this book, I feel there are much more full-filling ways to spend time and money.

Waste of time

Not worth the time, she did a disservice to the book by narrating it herself. So many mispronunciations on iconic fashion brand names, embarrassing. Lessons are completely surface level and she doesn’t add any depth to her stories. Her hardships still sound pretty cushy, but what’s to expect from a rich white JAP from Long Island.

Narcissism Disguised As adventure

Moving to the big city is hardly a new plot twist. Nor is having sex with multiple partners. That the author felt these experiences were book-worthy speaks poorly of her judgement, that of the publishers, and our expectations of young women. This book does a disservice to todays younger women, who are already too often maligned as vacuous and obsessed with sexual body counts. We need more stories of inspiring younger women. Not more STDs.

Wish I could take back the time I spent waiting for this to get good

I greatly tried to give this book a chance. I would like to consider myself an advocate for women entrepreneurs and love to support them when I can, but this book and author seem so out of touch with reality and so caught up in everything unimportant that I could not longer even listen to this book. Was uninteresting for all the chapters I was able to suffer through and it felt as if I was listening to someone’s gossip column than a leader in business talking about their business??

A fashion influencer story

It could be an interesting book for those who follow @weworewhat and her founder Danielle - author of the book - on social medial or for people with blogger or influencer aspirations. I enjoyed most of it, specially the little part about the behind the scenes of marketing deals on IG and creation of product lines. Have to confess I had no idea who she was until I listened to this book that I chose just because of the tittle. I really admire her desire to achieve big goals and work hard for them. I now follow her company on IG ;)

An inspiring story in the most amazing city on earth

Absolutely loved the book, especially because it was narrated by Danielle herself. I feel like I have a special connection with her because she’s probably the only influencer I follow, and I adore her honesty, work ethics and incredible big heart.
Even if you don’t follow Danielle, this book could be read by anyone and take away tips about being a woman entrepreneur in today’s world, a strong leader and someone who follows their passions. And of course, her story is based in New York and just because of this it’s worth reading the book. So inspiring!

Great book!

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn’t stop listening! I am just a bit older than Danielle but I still took a lot away from the advice she gave. I hope Danielle writes a second book soon!

Hard to see a topic

The book is all over the place, it starts as the telling of a girl’s single life but then goes off to discuss her business ventures (even though the title of the book states it is the exact opposite).

Great marketing but not inspiring story

The book was just okay. It wasn’t really insightful or inspiring. It reminded me of books targeting teenage audiences.
