This is a beautiful story about a young man and his aunt preserving their way of life, becoming spiritual leaders and facing the hardships of their time. Xavier and his best friend Aliza join the Canadian Army in the Great War. As you'd expect, there are horrifying moments, but also moments of victory and joy. The characters are so likable, you'll be engaged the while book.

And the narrators give a gold performance. Both the aunt and Xavier are narrated by talented people. Amazing job.

I loved the book, but the audio book brought the story to life. I would recommend this recording it is difficult story filled with the horrors of WWI and the damage it inflicted to the those who returned. and their families.

must read/listen

I read this novel as part of my Native Studies English course. The book is well written and was a good novel to study; though I did find the switching of timelines and Narrators to be a bit confusing at points. I feel I may have enjoyed this book a bit better if it weren't in a regimented course setting as it caused breaks in the continuity of the reading. I feel like this book was written in a way that would transfer nicely into a movie as there are flashbacks and different storytellers. Overall though this book is not my style, I am happy I read it and would be interested to see it become a movie.

This is a book that has stayed with me for years after reading it. Boyden's words are so descriptive that I remember the scenes more like a movie than a book. It is truly beautiful, one of my favourite books of all time. but also devastatingly sad.

This book is so well written and read aloud. It is a must for anyone who is interested in Canadian history and culture. I loved the characters and the plot development. I was hooked by the story after the first few minutes.
