This was C.J. Box's "Jump the shark" book. I wonder if he even wrote it. The story was quite simply unbelievable and was not nearly as good as previous books.

Only thing I would’ve liked to see is more backstory Dallas’s family and the history with Nate and Joe, also the backstory with Axel

As usual, I listened to this and threw the same question out into the universe: "How does he come up with this stuff?"

HE KILLED OFF LIV! He killed off Darcy. Judge Hewitt. Sheridan's boyfriend. And I'm not even finished it yet.

WHY??

This series was initially about the forest, animals, hunting, poaching, interesting situations/discoveries, family, Nate's rage and his birds and his newfound peace. This? This was crap. Oh, it was fine until he starting killing off characters,..

I was willing to forgive the author's buckling to the change of Nate's race for the TV series but now I'm just DONE. Done with CJ Box, done with Joe Pickett, done with Saddlestring. All of it.

I AM APPALLED!! Spoilers.

After listening to all the books in the series, the story was pointless and disappointing. It’s like the author ran out of ideas, randomly killing off characters. Hard to want to continue with the series after this one.
