Publisher's Summary

The classic fantasy trilogy of Elmer Elevator and the flying baby dragon has delighted children and their parents for generations. Now, on the occasion of their 50th anniversary, Random House is proud to bring the three timeless tales together in one commemorative edition.

A Newbery Honor Book and an ALA Notable Book, My Father's Dragon is followed by Elmer and the Dragon ("rich, humorous, and thoroughly satisfying") and The Dragons of Blueland ["ingenious and plausible, the fantasy well-sustained" (Library Journal, starred review)]. Each story stands alone, but listened to in succession they are an unforgettable experience.

Totally awesome and the best according to a 6 and 9 year old

My son has loved this series since he was four. Now he (9) and his little sister (6) listen to it on Audible and enjoy the ingenuity and humor. I asked them for their reviews and they had nothing but superlatives. Totally awesome. The best. Absolutely hilarious. They listen to a wide variety of good quality books and this continues to be a favorite

Thumbs up from my boys!

A bit eccentric, but well told and highly entertaining for my four sons (ages 3-9) My crew is usually sensitive to conflict and frightful antagonists, so we stick to non-violence. This story is tame while still wonderfully engaging, with a well-paced plot and unexpected turns in the narrative. The dragon is kind and helpful, not scary or violent as dragons often are. The narration is fantastic. This is a story my kids ask for again and again. Enjoy!

Delightful stories

My children have listened to this over and over again from when they were 3 or 4 years old, and are still delighted by it. It is a magical story and a great first chapter book!

Five year old loved it

As my five year old is starting to branch out from picture book read alouds to chapter books, I asked several college friends about their favorite books from childhood. This one was recommended by several people and I can see why. It's a timeless adventure story for kids with just the right amount of danger for young kids, engrossing but never frightening. My five year old son loved it. Normally a very high energy kid, he would beg me to turn it on and then sit and listen while peacefully building with Legos or drawing. He has asked to listened to it falling asleep at night and on road trips. We have probably listened to this one at least 20 times since I purchased it. Definitely a worthwhile purchase!

Great story for long drives and little ones

My two boys love this story. They listen any time we’re in the car for more than 30 minutes, and this story keeps them engaged and quiet. I’m a big fan :)

A classic my children and I love to listen to!

My children and I love this book. I got it in hardback for my oldest daughter who is just learning to read, so I also just bought it on audible so she can follow along with her book.

Just couldn't get into it

I had read rave reviews for this series but we just couldn't get into it. I know it's a series for children but the writing was too simple. We listened to it while travelling and everyone just tolerated it to the end - it was dreadful (ages 5, 5, 8, 10, 11, 13). Even my 5 year olds struggled to get through the story. I think my 13 year old read it when she was younger and struggled to get into it then but I think I dismissed it back then and just thought she wasn't ready for the book because everyone has such good things to say about this book. This book was not for us.
