Publisher's Summary

Chance Matthews is drawn into a battle between angels and monsters because of something in her possession - a fossil of a creature that couldn't possibly have ever existed. But it did. And still does.

What the critics say

"Set in present-day Birmingham, Ala., the novel centers on Chance Matthews, a promising young paleontologist left bereft by the recent deaths of friends and family. Chance and ex-boyfriend Deke Silvey, a loser with latent psychic powers, wallow in self-destructive angst until they're sought out by Dancy Flammarion, a strange teenage girl who claims to be pursued by monsters....A finale that veers unexpectedly from a seemingly inevitable display of supernatural fireworks to a subtly disarming denouement only underscores the intelligence behind this carefully crafted tale of awe-inspired nightmare." very stylized and badass

If you are strongly against purple prose and only want crystal clear imagery then this book is not for you. Looking into the story is less like through a window pane and more like trying to look through stained glass, there are A LOT of metaphors and purple prose.
But if that's cool with you, this story is groundbreaking and worth every praise it has gotten.

Also; might be a technical glitch but when the narrator makes the "ss" sound it comes out with a very high pitched squeak through the speaker and is almost painful to hear so I had to listen at low volume. might just be a me problem though.
