  • Summary

  • Losing weight is one of the hardest things you can do and everyone seems to have a solution. There are new diets appearing all the time, new exercise routines, new technologies. So how do we know what to believe and why is it still so damn hard?

Scientist Dr. Giles Yeo helps podcaster and columnist Olly Mann separate the fact from the fiction. Olly tries to figure out why he's still fat and what he can do about it. They look at the latest science: how genes can affect our weight, how our brains are telling our bodies to keep that fat, and why proteins make you feel fuller for longer. Along the way we'll also hear about Jane Fonda's role in the exercise boom of the 80s, 19th century fat-zapping corsets and when chewing was in vogue.

Helpful indeed...

I was always in command of my weight... Until menopause. Then something changed over about 15 years. This was invaluable feedback.

Don't waste your time

This serie is absolutely useless and very biased. Saying that what you eat doesn't matter for your weight is nonesense. Not all foods are created equal, it brushes off an ancestral approach to nutrition, and it doesn't really give any insight on how to lose weight for people who don't have time to cook real food.
Weight management is very specific to each individual. The extra kilos put on after menopause are very different from the ones put one by a man under 45 like the person who presents this serie.
If the topic of weight management and nutrition is of interest for you, you're better off listening to the habit formation and behavior serie or work with a health coach.

Common sense that isn’t

As I’m listening to your podcast I discovered that I know all of this. I’ve just completed a year long metabolic clinic which for the most part discusses these exact issues and tries to reframe your thinking of food and to deal with mental issues through your lifetime and their effect on wt gain. Your podcasts mirror those courses and how I now need to deal with my own thoughts and day to day life. It really is common sense that is hard to put into practice! Bravo. Love how real you make these issues!
