Publisher's Summary

After an absence of a year, Catherine LeVendeur and her husband Edgar are glad to return to Paris. When they enter the house, however, they are shocked by the discovery of the dead body of a Knight Templar. Although innocent, Catherine fears that she or her family will be incriminated. Her father Hubert has recently announced his Jewish roots, and twelfth-century Europe is not a safe place for Jews. She particularly fears the powerful knight, Jehan of Blois. Catherine must penetrate the secrets of the Knights Templar in order to vindicate her family.

Catherine and Edgar's loving relationship is warmly described against the mesmerizing sights and sounds of medieval Paris in this engrossing tale of mystery.

What the critics say

"Nadia May's voice truly captures the whirlwind excitement of life in Catherine LeVendeur's household in 12th-century Paris....May is up to the challenge of Latin chapter introductions and the snarls of the nastiest villains." (AudioFile)

lighthearted mixture of mystery and comedy

full of cute kids whose take on what's happening makes adults laugh and cuddle them
and miscommunications by clumsy adults leading to comic situations
slightly revealing of historical power dynamics
detection skills mediocre
good engagement of women
mediocre on practical details of daily life
why do anglophones who get many French pronunciations right so often pronounce Jean as zhaaannnn? If we were supposed to hear the N at the end, it would be spelled Jeane.
