A really awful performance mars what might have been a good experience, if Javier Mariás’ previous works are any indication. There’s petulance where there should be moral doubt and obvious mimicry instead of subtle character definition. He chews each line as if he thinks we’re dying to hear him eat his lunch rather than delve into the world of Tomâs Nevinson. Did they think the priority was to find an actor who could say Spanish place names perfectly? Shame.
