Publisher's Summary

If there’s one thing Jack Ryan, Jr’s father taught him, it’s that freedom isn’t free, but nothing can prepare Jack for the price he must pay in the latest electrifying entry in the #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Jack Ryan Jr. is in a world of trouble. When a benign surveillance operation takes a deadly turn, Jack finds himself locked in a struggle with an unseen enemy bent on destroying the Campus. The chase leads Jack to the South China Sea where a midair collision between aircraft from rival nations threatens to serve as a flash point for the entire region. As Jack frantically tries to put the pieces of the conspiracy together, the Campus is hit with a crippling attack. When the dust settles, Jack is one of the few operators still standing and the Campus’s de facto leader. But the fight is just beginning.

As tensions escalate, Jack’s mysterious adversary executes a brilliant campaign to paralyze the American government even as China inches closer to invading Taiwan. With the odds stacked against him and no help in sight, Jack and his shattered team must stop the world’s two remaining super powers from stumbling into war even as the noose around the Campus grows ever tighter.
Every operation has a cost.

This time the bill might just be too much to pay.

A pleasure With not only storyline, but presentation

The story is quite interesting, and the audio is more than I expected. To hear the various intonations and speech patterns make it become a visual package. I have already ordered the next book. I have also chosen another series by the same author. And I am searching for other books by the same presenter. He makes everything so clear.

Amazing

Nonstop action. Great preference. Believable story. Jack Jr finally cuts his teeth. Read in one day and left me wanting the next book in a hurry.

Don and Scott do it again.

Author and narrator are both in top form, as expected. An excellent storyline, expected nothing less from an author taking after the late Tom Clancy. Jack Ryan Junior is in his most difficult situation yet. He comes through, but not without cost. Intend to wait for more from both.

Very well done

I don’t always like the Jack Ryan Jr. books. This one I thoroughly enjoyed! There are extra doses of dry humor / sarcasm at just the right moments and intelligent action scenes that made this a book I didn’t want to stop listening to. I like what the author is doing with Jad and Carey, though Midas was notably missing and Adara felt like an afterthought. I hope the writing team doesn’t write either of them out. I’m looking forward to reading and listening to more from Don Bentley.

Clancy is alive in this novel

A worthy addition to the campus cannon. This novel was one of my favorite since Mark Greaney left the franchise.

Excellent!

My favorite characters came back finally. Just wish it was as long as some of the other books. Action packed and thrilling.

Good, but…..,

First, thank you for not going into details on Clark’s torture we got the point without it.
Second, with so much at stake where were Adara and Midas?
Lastly, too
Many gaps in the story.

Strong Listen

If you have enjoyed the other Jack Ryan Jr. Novels, This will not disappoint. Strong development for Jack Jr. in his new role, building of his team, and the speaker keeps you not wanting to pause.

Another Jack Jr Great Adventure

The Clancyesque great novels continue with this action thriller involving the Campus with the greater intelligence community. Very well done.

The best Tom Clancy novel I ever read!

Out of all the Tom Clancy novels I've read, this is the shortest and best one out of all of them, and that is saying something! Don Bentley managed to speed up the pace of the story without sacrificing plot or character development.

The characters were all great, my favorite being Cary and Jad. The actions and tensions on each scene were perfect, making it nearly impossible for me to put the book down.

Scott Brick did an amazing job as a narrator, although the only minor nitpick I had was how he imitated the female characters.

Overall, the novel was simply flawless, and I highly recommend it, especially to Tom Clancy fans everywhere.

Somewhat Disappointed Again

I enjoyed the overall story. Once again, a Jack Ryan Jr novel lays out a plausible and compelling story for today’s world theater of possible military conflict. There seemed to be this time though a lot of wholes in the story and the pieces of the story were forcibly placed in the story to tie events together. It’s like someone hurriedly writing and someone else hurriedly just writing details down to fix where the see issues with the story. However, they both fail at truly making the story seamless. One example is the assignation of the American scientist. You have to be told by the author that it is actually an assignation attempt on Jack Ryan Jr. I don’t think that revelation was ever brought out by the team itself. Also, there were parts of the story that go into excruciating detail that I get really board, especially in Germany. I don’t have a hard copy of the book but it seems half the book was during a two or three day stay in Germany leaving less time for the rest of the story which was the more interesting part of the story to me. I still don’t quite follow the logic of how the Chinese woman was able to set up Jack so well to take such a specific shot, and miss. How did the team find out about the scientist in the specific event in a way to compel them to be in Germany in the first place versus some other task or event? I do appreciate though the cleaner language of this book. There were no F-bombs like last time. Thank you for that.
