About this listen
In this revelatory, authoritative portrait of Donald J. Trump and the toxic family that made him, Mary L. Trump, a trained clinical psychologist and Donald’s only niece, shines a bright light on the dark history of their family in order to explain how her uncle became the man who now threatens the world’s health, economic security, and social fabric.
Mary Trump spent much of her childhood in her grandparents’ large, imposing house in the heart of Queens, where Donald and his four siblings grew up. She describes a nightmare of traumas, destructive relationships, and a tragic combination of neglect and abuse. She explains how specific events and general family patterns created the damaged man who currently occupies the Oval Office, including the strange and harmful relationship between Fred Trump and his two oldest sons, Fred, Jr., and Donald.
A firsthand witness to countless holiday meals and family interactions, Mary brings an incisive wit and unexpected humor to sometimes grim, often confounding family events. She recounts in unsparing detail everything from her uncle Donald’s place in the family spotlight and Ivana’s penchant for regifting to her grandmother’s frequent injuries and illnesses and the appalling way Donald, Fred Trump’s favorite son, dismissed and derided him when he began to succumb to Alzheimer’s.
Numerous pundits, armchair psychologists, and journalists have sought to parse Donald J. Trump’s lethal flaws. Mary L. Trump has the education, insight, and intimate familiarity needed to reveal what makes Donald, and the rest of her clan, tick. She alone can recount this fascinating, unnerving saga, not just because of her insider’s perspective but also because she is the only Trump willing to tell the truth about one of the world’s most powerful and dysfunctional families.

A Must Read
Ms. Trump's searing portrait of Donald and his family dynamics will stay with you long after you've finished reading. She exposes not only what he is, but also why. In an in depth and unflinching way she shows how Donald and his siblings were both shaped and scarred by a father who was a sociopath. This book also highlights the peril that America has been placed in due to his presidency, but its timely release may yet offer a glimmer of hope.

Triumphant
Thankful that any member of the Trump family could bring themself to thoughtfully, eloquently and honestly provide such insight to the deeply flawed character of their relative, " The Don".
Your words resonate.
The fear I have for the United States, democracy and the world at large are papable due in large part to your uncle (can't bring myself to call him President), his supporting cast of floundering Republican cronies and hate filled (WEAK) followers who against ALL that is reasonable, believe his fabrications.
Thank you!

It's very hard for me to judge. However, I struggled not to be emotionally involved and triggered. I empathize you Mary L. Trump.

It all makes sense.
Well written and narrated. This is not an attack of Donald Trump, rather an insight to his behavior patterns and what drives and triggers them.
Definitely interesting.

Should be mandatory listening for all US voters.
Love how she just lays into Donald Trump at the end. She calls its EXACTALY how it is. Brutal and necessary.

More a Paternal Vindication But Still Fascinating
I listened to this in its entirety over two days. If you are a fan of Donald Trump you will not like this book. If you are not, a group which I align with, you'll find the vindication of your suspicions about his narcissism and complete lack of humanity and humility. But above all, I see this as a daughter's attempt to give voice to a father who could and would not speak for himself. Regardless, it is still fascinating and worth your time.

What an interesting and sad book!
I learned more than enough to have a full and robust opinion of Donald Trump.
It puts a whole new meaning to a statement I saw on Instagram. I don’t know who wrote it and it may be an inaccurate quote:
Living in Canada is like living in an apartment just above a meth lab.

Terrifying
Terrifying look into what made Donald Trump who he is. Family from hell. I don't know if I pity him, but it's mindblowing to learn how much they've all gotten away with.
