INSTANT NATIONAL BESTSELLER

“Equal parts hilarious and disturbing, Too Old for This kept me glued to the pages from beginning to end!”
—#1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden

A retired serial killer’s quiet life is upended by an unexpected visitor. To protect her secret, there’s only one option left—what’s another murder? From bestselling author Samantha Downing.

Lottie Jones thought her crimes were behind her.

Decades earlier, she changed her identity and tucked herself away in a small town. Her most exciting nights are the weekly bingo games at the local church and gossiping with her friends.

When investigative journalist Plum Dixon shows up on her doorstep asking questions about Lottie’s past and specifically her involvement with numerous unsolved cases, well, Lottie just can’t have that.

But getting away with murder is hard enough when you’re young. And when Lottie receives another annoying knock on the door, she realizes this crime might just be the death of her…

Author Samantha Downing's unique voice continues to shine in 'Too Old For This,' a satisfying thriller with a loveable curmudgeonly hero who does her very best to get by in a world that's been less than kind to her. This is not another cliched serial killer thriller. An old nemesis, who lost what he believed was an ironclad case against her 40 years ago, has masterminded one last series of hurdles for her to leap with her arthritic limbs before she will be free to move on to her final stage of life. The genuine relationships she has with her fellow church bingo ladies, her adult lawyer son, his two teen children, his ex-wife, and his newly betrothed are eloquently developed, and a pleasure to read. I quickly grew to love the scrappy 75-year-old who has always fiercely protected herself and her young son against sneering attitudes from those who thought themselves superior to her: an unmarried undereducated woman who carved out her own path in life. Yes, I cheered for her, and you will too. Kudos too, to narrator Elizabeth Wiley for effortlessly carrying this challenging work. This unabridged audiobook was professionally produced and released in 2025 by Penguin Audio.

It was funny and comical really enjoyed it. Better than I expected. I thought it was going to be dark but it was not.

I really enjoyed the concept of this book however it kind of dragged on at times and I wanted to root for the character but couldn’t! It had so much potential. However, I loved the narrator so much it made it a million times easier to finish the book.

Interesting concept poor execution

I thought the narration was very good and believable. I caught myself gasping a few times. So many twists. She’s one crazy old lady!! Fun read.
