Publisher's Summary

Laying hands upon the injured and dying, Avry of Kazan absorbs their wounds and diseases into herself. But rather than being honored for her skills, she is hunted. Healers like Avry are accused of spreading the plague that has decimated the Fifteen Realms, leaving the survivors in a state of chaos.

Stressed and tired from hiding, Avry is abducted by a band of rogues who, shockingly, value her gift above the golden bounty offered for her capture. Their leader, an enigmatic captor-protector with powers of his own, is unequivocal in his demands: Avry must heal a plague-stricken prince—leader of a campaign against her people. As they traverse the daunting Nine Mountains, beset by mercenaries and magical dangers, Avry must decide who is worth healing and what is worth dying for. Because the price of peace may well be her life….

Refreshing, Fun, Exciting and Complex!

I love this book! This was actually a reread for me and I forgot how much I loved this book initially. This story intrigued me from the very start and only got better. It's fun, exciting, complex, and creative. Snyder has this ability to create such a magical world that engulfs the reader. There is not a single thing I disliked in this story. This book is character and plot-driven which makes it an incredibly fast read. I could not put it down and I listened to it in one sitting. Every character in the book is well thought out and extremely complex. I can't wait to continue this series. I would and have recommended this to people. I would actually go as far as to say that this is my favourite book I've read this year. This world is magical and the relationships in this story are so beautifully complex. This book left me wanting more and I can't wait to continue the series. I've already bought the next two books. In addition, Zackman's narration is probably the best I've listened to since having an audible membership. Zackman is creative with her voices and I loved every minute of her narration. This story takes place over several months and is so incredibly well done that you feel you are on this journey with the characters. In addition, Snyder's ability describes the world made me feel like I was standing in the forest with Avery. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this book! In my opinion, this is definitely a must-read!
