À propos de cet audio
What happened to the ancient Egyptians? When their civilization fell, did the Egyptian people disappear? Or do their descendants exist to this day? What about the ancient Persians? Romans? Mayans?
For years, the answers to these questions have been hidden. But no more. Nathaniel T. Jeanson, a Harvard graduate with a PhD in cell and developmental biology, has discovered a DNA-based, generation by generation family tree for global humanity. This tree uncovers the origin and fate of these ancient peoples—and connects them to peoples alive today.
The fascinating research presented in Traced has additional far-reaching consequences for numerous contemporary debates:
- Race: Traced shows that the races have changed multiple times in human history. Thus, “White”, “Black”, “Asian” and other common descriptors lose their meaning in light of modern genetics.
- Prehistory: Traced reveals that today’s Native Americans were not the first but replaced earlier inhabitants whose genealogical origins remain unknown.
- History and origin of minority groups: The genetics in Traced restores the indigenous histories to many obscure people groups and connects them back to specific ancestors in Genesis 10.
- The age of the Earth: Traced represents one of the strongest arguments in print for the recent origin of humanity.
- Biblical authority: Historically, young-Earth creationists have sought to defend biblical authority from scientific attacks; Traced puts biblical authority on offense.
Dive into the wild and emerging field of historical genetics and see how these recent discoveries on the fate of ancient civilizations end up uncovering the story of the whole world. Traced: Human DNA’s Big Surprise will inspire, not only budding historians, archaeologists, geneticists, linguists, and anthropologists, but anyone interested the marvelous and messy story of humankind.

"Dr. Nathaniel Jeanson has found the Rosetta Stone of human history." (Ken Ham, CEO and founder of Answers in Genesis, the highly acclaimed Creation Museum, and the world-renowned Ark Encounter)
"[A] ground-breaking book...likely to become a classic.” (Ola Hössjer, PhD, Professor of Mathematical Statistics, Stockholm University, Sweden)
"[P]ulls the curtain back further on the mystery of early human history using genetics, history, and linguistics” (Les Bruce, PhD, retired research specialist, Summer Institute of Linguistics International)
Any attempt trying to put science and religion in one pot should be examined carefully since the author's motivation to write such a book is usually neither scientific nor religious but noxious politics...

Reason one - the authors bias; the first result when looking up the author is Answers in Genesis. A young earth creationist group that is functionally anti science and pro bible. Something I did not know when I started this book. But is something that makes sense after listening to 12 chapters.
As for the book itself - again “yikes” the information is presented as almost a wall of text (even as an audio book it’s a wall of text). And there are aspects of the content that either pull from the bible (this is not necessarily a bad thing but can’t be overlooked in like of the authors affiliations). It also ignores information that was available to the author at the time of writing that would contradict the conclusions made in the text. However that info would also change the fundamental premise of what the author is trying to accomplish so it’s not surprising that it’s ignored.
On top of that the language used in the book becomes more and more racist and demeaning to those who are not white and male. Instead of referring to indigenous Americans by the tribal names or as “indigenous Americans/people” they are referred to as “Indians” a term that wasn’t used in the book about tracing humans thought the female line from the 90s. So a book from 2022? Not okay.
And as for the treatment of women? Nothing is mentioned about tracing DNA through the mitochondria DNA only the Y chromosome as that supports the YEC view, whereas the matrilineal DNA does not.
Couple that with the narrator mispronouncing words, and lack of knowledge and out the subject matter, and the references to the inserts (PDF) and the book becomes a slog to listen to.
Honestly if one wants to learn about DNA and how we can understand the history of human migration then there are much better books out there by actual scientists without the biblical agenda attached. Don’t waste your time on this one
Yikes.

I looked for the author's current academic affiliation. Some university or college, and there was surprisingly nothing. Since the available bibliography cited journal articles in key scientific journals, I found no apparent PebMed journal articals where the author was a priniciple, first, or lead author, so I conclude that he had a lesser role in the research, except one. I could not clearly see what was his PhD thesis, but I suspect it was the article published in Blood (Vitamin D receptor deletion leads to increased hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells residing in the spleen; 2014) There is no clear leap from training Vitamin D research/molecular control of biochemical functions in stem cells to the type of genetic work being presented in this book. The author could be more forthright by presenting better details about his qualifications fin this field, other than a PhD from Harvard.
Further investigation found a link to creationist science, and I fear that "science" is being contorded to promote religious ideology. Force a square peg in a round hole for those who don't know the difference between a square and a circle? In theory, scientific reasoning could be used to express a case, and then conjecture that the scientific facts allign with the bible, but it is not valid to build a scientific argument using the bible as fact, given what is scientifically known about the bible. It is fine to have personal beliefs, but not to use personal beliefs to distort the truth.
Unfortunately, given ambiguiies, this book may not be worth the reader's time. The premise is not clearly stated at the beginning and the reader may be lead down a rabbit hole, after hours of listening and relistening, as I was. Perhaps I have misunderstood the context. What do other readers with a scientific background think about this book?
Unfortunately, I was taken in by the title
