Publisher's Summary

A darkly comic short story of class divide, the lives we invent, and the very real risks of preserving an Insta-fame facade by the award-winning author of My Sister, the Serial Killer.

Treasure is a wannabe Instagram influencer in Lagos, Nigeria. She shows off a luxurious life in a gated community that her almost five thousand followers can only dream of. @Sho4Sure is determined to be part of it. The macho mechanic is Treasure’s number one fan, and double taps and blushing emojis are no longer enough. He needs to meet her in the flesh. If only Treasure were more prepared for destiny.

Oyinkan Braithwaite’s Treasure is part of Hush, a collection of six stories, ranging from political mysteries to psychological thrillers, in which deception can be a matter of life and death. Each piece can be read or listened to in one truly chilling sitting.

What the critics say

"With excellent pacing and the use of local dialects, Oduye brings the city of Lagos and these characters into sharp focus…the story’s ending is compelling and holds a few surprises." AudioFile Magazine

For a 1 hour short story this was great

I loved author's my sister the serial killer and this had many of the same elements. I didn't know it was going to be this short so I was a little disappointed but for a short story this was great. I love african stories. Author has unique style to combine light and dark, comedy to crime. Something refreshing to read for a change. Narrator is the best though I never understood the hero's name and some other sentences were lost to me as well because of the thick accent. Am not native english speaking.

what am i missing!?

There are 6 novellas in the Hush collection. This book is one of them. I didn't really care for it. I think i am in the minority here.
It was one of those books that you're staring into space when it ends wondering, "was that it!!??"

The narrator, Adepero Oduye was great though. 🤷‍♀️

My favorite from Hush collection so far!!

This is the third story I listened to in the Hush collection and so far it was my favorite! I loved the accent of the narrator too, it really added to the setting of the story and made it more enjoyable.

Just okay

This is a short story and is part of the free Hush collection. This was just okay for me; I had a hard time getting into the story line.

Boring

Slow and boring. No story. I just couldn’t even finish it. Middle schooler can do better.

Good!!

Very well written story. I enjoyed it very much! The narrator is awesome, delightful to listen to. One must definitely listen to rather than simply read this short story.

Engaging from the start

This short story was engaging from the start. An ironic story you want to feel is a bit far fetched, but realize with a chill it could easily happen. I’m looking for more stories from the author.

Not My Favorite of the Hush Collection

Treasure is Book #2 in the Hush Collection by Amazon. I must say, that out of the five that I've read thus far, this is by far my least favorite.

I struggled to even follow the story and didn't sense any dark comedy. I also wasn't super thrilled with the narration, which felt robotic.

I haven't read anything from this author previously, and I still won't hesitate to try her again, because I'm a firm believer that it takes a special writer to write a short story, so I'm willing to give it another shot based on that!
