Publisher's Summary
Tamora Pierce brings listeners another Tortall adventure!
Alianne is the teenage daughter of the famed Alanna, the first lady knight in Tortall. Young Aly follows in the quieter footsteps of her father, however, delighting in the art of spying. When she is captured and sold as a slave to an exiled royal family in the faraway Copper Islands, it is this skill that makes a difference in a world filled with political intrigue, murderous conspiracy, and warring gods.
This is the first of two books featuring Alianne.
What the critics say
"With magic, spells, winged horses that are part human and part metal, crows that take human form, brutal fighting, treason, and attempted kidnapping, this fantasy has plenty to hold readers' attention." (School Library Journal)
"Trini Alvarado's pleasing voice adds youthful energy to Aly's escapades....[Her] performance is memorable." (AudioFile)
"A marvelous cast of characters, human, mage, and animal; a tangled web of political and racial tensions; and the promise of other Aly stories to come will engage Pierce's legions of fans and win over even more." (Booklist)

Good story, Good Narration, BAD EDITING!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I like this book, and all of the books in the Tortal universe
Any additional comments?
There is over 3 hours of repeated chapters at the end of both of the downloaded segments. The first section is 7:40.46 long, but at 5:58:24, it repeats previous material. The strange thing is that it seems to flow straight into it, so when you're listening you are confused. The second section is 7:36:24 long, and after the credits it also repeats previous chapters. They should really edit their audiobooks better. I wish I could get the smaller file without all the repeats, so I had more room on my computer!!

Love the Story and Narrarator! Audible has glitch
What made the experience of listening to Trickster's Choice the most enjoyable?
Trini Alvarado is a wonderful narrarator. I love listening to her. She is so talented at expressing emotions and variance of characters. And Tamora Pierce writes a FANTASTIC story! I love all of the books revolving around Tortall. I am always left wanting more when a series ends.
Any additional comments?
In this particular audible book, audible seems to have a glitch where in a couple places in the story it all of a sudden starts reading from back in previous chapters for about 30-45 minutes then suddenly goes back to where it should be. I hope they read this and address it because it would be a shame for anyone to not purchase or listen to this wonderful adventure due to a couple technicle difficulties. Keep up the excellent work, Tamora! We all look forward to seeing more of your world!

A heroine with pluck and spirit
I first came across Tamora Pierce via her "lady knight" series "Protector of the Small" and enjoyed the heroine Keladry, with her secret patron Alanna the Lioness. I then filled in the story with the Lioness and Wildmage books intended for young children. But it wasn't until I read "Trickster's Choice" that I became a Pierce fan: the book instantly became a favorite and was my first purchase when I joined Audible.com. It did not disappoint: Trini Alvarado does a superb job with the narration and dialog, five stars all the way!
This book concerns the daughter of Alanna the Lioness and George Cooper, secret spymaster of Tortall. Sixteen year old Alianne (Aly) learned spycraft at her father's knee but has a troubled relationship with her famous mother, the King's Champion, who is often away at the wars. When circumstances cause Aly to be plucked from home and dropped into the intrigues of a foreign kingdom and culture, thanks to the meddling of the "Trickster" god Kyprioth, she must use all her skill and savvy to survive, thrive, and protect those around her. In addition to Aly, the book is filled with compelling, well-developed characters. But it is simple in style, as opposed to beautiful literature: the story is the attraction, not language artistry.
As heroines go, I find it hard to top the "Trickster's Choice". She was a character I wanted to root for from early on and didn't disappoint. And I think that one would have to have a hard heart not to tear up a bit when Aly encounters her father near the end of the book, no matter how many times one has read/listened to it. Those who enjoy this book will certainly want to continue with "Trickster's Queen" to find out how the story ends. (Hint: no, the Trickster's Queen isn't Aly...)
My impression is that Tamora Pierce has been gradually writing for older readers as her series progress and this book seems intended for teens and, perhaps, fairly mature tweens (as is her Beka Cooper "Terrier, Bloodhound, Mastiff" series). Themes include slavery, racism, revolution, and deadly political intrigue. For the record: I am not part of Pierce's target readership since I am an older male not a young female. But I enjoy books with strong female protagonists and this book has one of the best.

Any additional comments?
Trickster's Choice & Trickster's Queen are at the 5star multi listen pinnacle of Tamora Pierce's EXCELLENT writing! These YA books are adult worthy audio that my daughter & I have been re-listening to for more than a decade. We finally got the audible files so she has them @ college too. Almost everything thing Tamora writes is solid 5 stars and her audio versions are reliably good. These two books [not too immature, too mature or too dark, w/ humor, drama, & love] are perennial favorites.

Trickster's Choice Good Choice
Really enjoyed this book. It had a lot of excitement and I enjoyed the voice of Trini Alverado. She does all the different voices extremely well. I had to buy the sequel, Trickster's Queen right away to find out the rest of the story.

One of my Favorites
I can’t believe I’ve never written a review for Trickster’s Choice! It’s been a favorite of mine since the days I would check it out from the library (on cassette tape) and take it on road trips with my family.
This is one of my favorite comfort audiobooks and easily the series I’ve listened to more than any other. When I am sad and don’t want to be in my head, this is where I turn.
Pierce’s characters are solid and have held up well over time. Trini Alvarado is one of my favorite narrators and the genius of having her narrate the Alanna books and the Aly books is not lost on me.
This story is alive and close enough to touch. I can smell the food, and feel the stone of the keep. I am never bored in the Copper Isles with Aly, and you won’t be either.
