Publisher's Summary

Pete Buttigieg demonstrates how a breakdown of trust is central to our nation’s current predicament - and how our future depends on finding ways to instill confidence in the American project, and in each other.

Trust is the essential foundation of America’s democracy, asserts Pete Buttigieg, former presidential candidate and best-selling author of Shortest Way Home. In a century shaped by terrorism, financial collapse, Trumpist populism, global pandemic, and systemic racism, trust - in our government, corporations, experts, and, most tragically, in one another - has precipitously eroded and, for so many, never existed in the first place.

Recognizing that we are now experiencing disastrous consequences, the former South Bend mayor offers a direct reckoning with the corruption of social responsibility, interweaving history, political philosophy, and affecting passages of memoir, offering a new outlook for how we can confront the next decade’s challenges by building accountability. In this urgent work, Buttigieg confirms his status as a visionary political thinker.

Well written insight into American politics

Pete Buttigieg's insight into American politics is not only fascinating, it's inspiring. Any chance to hear a future leader of the Democratic Party talk about why he sees America how he does is well worth the price, especially with the man himself narrating it.

Incredible!

Mr. Pete Buttigieg is an excellent author and orator of this book- it’s something we all need right now. So grateful he has come onto the national scene as a calming, pragmatic, and brilliant voice. He is the kind of public servant that I aspire to be. Thank you and can’t wait to see what is next for you! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world!

Truth Equals Trust

I almost forgot how gratifying it is to listen to an intelligent speaker.

The speech at the end brought back great memories of Pete's rallies that I was lucky enough to attend twice.

Mayor Pete Shares How To Trust

No matter what he did during his presidential campaign and now supporting Joe Biden, Mayor Pete has shown us how to trust him and how to trust those who have our best interests at heart. This is a very interesting read.

Must Buy-Thank You Pete

This is the first of Pete's book I have read. I know he is brilliant, especially when he is Pete Buttegieg and not Mayor Pete the candidate. When he does a media hit, I listen.

So Trust is Pete's analysis of trust's importance in every functioning society, interaction, company, etc. He essentially wrote a socioeconomic literary masterpiece on trust by telling stories through his personal and empirical lenses. It is also just as much a masterclass.... and, he reads the book so is able to capture another dimension with his tone. He does this in under 5 hours-i am familiar with him and much of his belief system too,,,and I learned soooooo much. Thanks Man-you have my vote in 2032

Trust me, this is an excellent book.

I’d recommend this to anyone regardless of political affiliation. The topic is Trust and Pete does a great job or explaining why it matters, how it’s developed, and how we might all contribute to building trust and reaping the rewards of living in a more trustworthy and trusting society.

Everyone should read this book.

Buttigieg takes us down The Road Not Taken. He reminds us to see deeply into what we have lost and how we can regain it.

Loved it!

Great audio book! I listened to it to and and from school everyday, it made the commute feel like nothing. I especially loved that Pete was the narrator, that’s what made this 5 stars for me. I recommend this to any Pete supporter, liberal, or anyone interested in the topic of trust within our society.

Short but heartfelt

One might conclude that this is a boilerplate anecdote book for the current political cycle, but there is sincerity and honest examination of real issues for those who are interested. For those who wish to deeply examine moral psychology, or the formation of social contracts, there are more lengthy and academic options. Make no mistake, there is a message here. But it is one of reconciliation and a willingness to reach for a common purpose - idealistic, but pragmatic reformation of institutional trust. The excellent delivery by Mayor Pete shows great sensitivity and willingness to engage, not only with his own progressive supporters, but also to those who may have some distance in their viewpoints.
