Kamran Hadid feels invincible. He attends Hampton school, an elite all-boys boarding school in London, he comes from a wealthy family and he has a place at Oxford next year. The world is at his feet. And then a night of revelry leads to a drunken encounter, and he must ask himself a horrific question.
With the help of assault counsellor Zara Kaleel, Kamran reports the incident in the hopes that will be the end of it. But it’s only the beginning....
Powerful, explosive and important, Truth Be Told is a contemporary courtroom drama that vividly captures today’s society. You will not stop thinking about it for a long time to come.

An engrossing, fast paced brilliantly written tale
I loved Ms. Abdullah's Take It Back and was delighted to find that Truth Be Told was equally captivating. An affluent Muslim family going through the motions of living a privileged life in London with two talented sons being educated in an exclusive private school. The idyll is blown wide open when the elder son has a drunken encounter with a homosexual student and seeks the support of Zara, a counselor dedicated to getting justice for the victims of sexual abuse.
The novel is so much more, however, the dynamics of the "perfect" Muslim family with the overbearing father, the compliant but frustrated mother, and the dragons that Zara as a modern Muslim woman has to slay all come into play in this tightly woven novel with a powerful twist at the end.
I highly recommend this book and the previous one by Ms. Abdullah, I think she is an exceptionally accomplished writer and I'm already looking forward to her next novel.
