Publisher's Summary

Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever. He has never once been tempted to break those rules...until her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She's nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed. Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defenses until he's faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her.

Because she's his. His princess. His forbidden fruit. His every depraved fantasy.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses. But when her brother abdicates, she's suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.

And as she navigates the intricacies—and treacheries—of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can't have. Her bodyguard. Her protector. Her ultimate ruin.

Theirs is a love that could destroy a kingdom...and doom them both.

Contains mature themes.

It’s a fun read

It’s a good book to read if you’ve just come of a series binge. It’s relatively light and it has some cliches. I liked the style of writing, and found myself laughing out loud a few times.

One of the Best Contemporary Romances!

Honestly Ana Huang’s books have yet to disappoint me. In all of the twisted series, Twisted Games is definitely my favourite. I have to say I imagined Bridget sounding a touch softer but Cindy Kay’s performance was stellar and fit the character of a modern monarch perfectly. Aiden Snow voices Rhys exactly as I imagined, if not better! Overall, I loved the book and experiencing to the story again through this audiobook just brought the characters to life and made the listening experience a lot more vivid!

Why are all my book boyfriends named Rhys?

"Bridget von Ascheberg was mine and mine alone. It didn't matter that she wasn't mine to take. I was taking her anyway and if I could tattoo myself onto her skin, bury myself in her heart, and etch myself onto her soul, I would."

What a way to kick off 2023! I've seen this series all over bookstagram and booktok, and while I really enjoyed Twisted Love, Twisted Games is what really sold me on all the hype for this series. Once I started, I just couldn't stop! Also, what is it about a man named Rhys that gets me every time?

Twisted Games gives us the bodyguard, royal/political tropes with a fierce female lead and your new favourite grumpy, broody book boyfriend.

Princess Bridget cannot stand her overbearing, arrogant bodyguard. Rhys Larsen is a highly sought after bodyguard who has guarded many prestigious airheads - he expects the Princess to be no different. She drives him crazy, but also gets under his skin, once he learns she is just as fiery and beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. But he can't let her distract him from keeping her safe.

When Princess Bridget's brother abdicated the throne to marry a commoner for love, Bridget sees all of the freedom she craves slipping through her fingers and the gilded cage closing in. Her normally stoic and impenetrable bodyguard breaks down some walls to help Bridget complete a bucket list before having to officially move back to her home country and begin her Queen training. When the walls between Bridget and Rhys come tumbling down, they know their budding relationship is doomed as Bridget is required by law to marry a man of noble birth. Her country couldn't handle both her brother and herself abdicating for love. So what will Bridget choose; duty to her country and crown or her forbidden love?

The narrators performance was fantastic. Sometimes I find narrators can over or under dramatize books but this one was juuuust right. Cindy Kay and Aiden Snow absolutely nailed it.

Some weird choices

It’s okay. But why did the producers let the actors use different accents for the same character? It’s mind-boggling and such a glaring mistake. It makes it seem like no one checked in with what was being recorded at all. There is also a significant volume change between the male and female chapters; can be a bit of a jump scare.
Also, this is a series where the main characters change every book and they use the same actors for each of the books, which feels like a weird choice because all of the characters sound the same

Performance was good but story seemed forced

*SPOILERS AHEAD*
I bought this because a couple of bookstagrammers recommended it and while the performance was good, I couldn't really connect to the characters. I am not sure if it's because of the writing - maybe because "everything is spelled out" about each character, they almost seemed to lack depth. I felt like i was reading a book with teenage audience based on writing style but then "steam factor" for 18+. While I don't mind spice especially if it develops the romance or advances the plot line, the sex scenes just seem to be sprinkled throughout the story like it had to meet a quota for sex scenes. I also found them quite distasteful.

* slapping of v's is not sexy;
* neither is having sex in a hospital room right beside a grandpa who just had a heart attack

Just my opinion - it might float other people's boat but definitely not mine.
