This Lt.Col. Kevin D. Randle USAR Ret. book is the literary equivalent of that guy that ambushed Buzz Aldrin and screamed at him for lying about the Moon Landing. For every Bob Lazar and Colonel Phillip Corso whistleblower there are 3 or 4 professionals putting their reputations at risk and going on the record to debunk or deny conspiratorial allegations.
Randle straight-up calls them liars (participants in some vague cover-up for unexplored reasons).
His organization of famous - albeit disputed - sightings & testimonies gathered by 'Project Bluebook' & 'Project Moondust' is excellent.. but he renders them questionable merely by asserting that those programs were formed with the express mandate of ignoring/dismissing them. Saying on the one hand that the guys recording the interviews were liars in on the conspiracy - but on the other insisting that the testimony is reliable - is mindboggling.

As to presentation: David Marantz reads with one of the most robotic, uninterested monotones that I've ever heard. Marantz's diction is creditable.. but this performance legitimately sounds like a text-to-speech AI. After factoring in incredibly lazy sound editing (e.g. leaving repeated sentences in the recording), I conclude that this is an execrable recording.

Altogether, I give 'UFOs and the Deep State: A History of the Military and Shadow Government's War Against The Truth: 50 Years of Disinformation, Saboteurs, Intimidation, and Cover-Ups' 2.5 stars out of 10. I liked the author's documentary skills and book organization - but can't recommend giving this version a listen - free or not. Hard Pass.
