À propos de cet audio

Two souls, forever entwined… and running for their lives.

Nyssa Blacksea is a wanted woman. The Empire she once served now hunts for her and her unlikely new companion, Quinn. It's only a matter of time until the two women are found and executed. Desperate and with nowhere to turn, Nyssa and Quinn hatch an insane plan—offer the Empire its oldest enemy in exchange for their freedom.

But the path to their freedom is fraught with assassins, heart-breaking betrayal, strange gods… and a dangerous queen who demands Nyssa to submit. Or be broken. Complicating everything is Nyssa's growing affection for Quinn. Both are inextricably linked by magick that they barely understand and struggle to control.

Facing incredible odds and her own mortality, Nyssa has to confront her fears—and her feelings—or succumb to those who wish to destroy her.

For listeners who love unique epic fantasy set against a semi-modern backdrop, featuring a sapphic enemies-to-lovers slow burn romance. Unbound will appeal to fans of Arcane, The Legend of Korra, and Gideon the Ninth.

I really enjoy the world-building in this one. Political machinations aren't a favourite aspect of fantasy for me, but they'll likely be a big bonus in this book for those who are. The characters are amusing, as with the first installment.

Does get a bit dark, though, what with good people being forced to do terrible things. Hopefully this series doesn't become misery Olympics. I hate that.

I have to agree with the other reviewer on the quality of the male narrator, though. He's terrible. Thankfully, the book uses a third person limited viewpoint and only the chapters where we see inside Athan's head are narrated by Wayne, which is a tiny percentage of the book (maybe 5%?).

I gave 5 stars to Paige and 1 star to Wayne and averaged for that rating. Sorry, Paige. Seriously, it's pretty bad when the female narrator does a 10x better job at the male characters than the male narrator -_- Accounting for the vastly different amounts of narration they do, I'm averaging to 4 stars for narration instead of 3.

If you're looking for more sapphic work by Paige, check out the Red Rivals Duet by Persephone Black. Both of the narrators for that duology are top notch.

Interesting World-building

So i got through this out of love for the first book, but wow if the male voice wasn’t painful and downright ridiculous. He really doesn’t do variance of characters justice, the quality of it completely takes you out of the story and unfortunately just made me laugh harder each time i heard him…. It doesn’t always follow who each actor voices either so you’re never really prepared for being torn from focus.

That said!!! Excellent story and if you can hang on i still think its worth it :P

Love the series but…..
