Gilman’s mysteries are fabulous, and this has the feel of a Mrs. Pollifax, but with a vulnerable, wary, hurt main character. I enjoyed it and only felt it ended too abruptly. But Gilman had already said what she wanted to, so I get it. This book was about growth, with the suspense mostly there as a vehicle.

The prior critique said it all: a novel about personal growth with intrigue sprinkled throughout that ended too soon. Would have loved just one more chapter but there are more than enough insightful passages to return to. And what is remarkable is how the story/writing felt utterly current. As for the narration…it was exquisite. Adored this Audiobook.
