Story
In a strange little home built into the branches of a grove of trees, live three robots—fatherly inventor android Giovanni Lawson, a pleasantly sadistic nurse machine, and a small vacuum desperate for love and attention. Victor Lawson, a human, lives there too. They’re a family, hidden and safe. The day Vic salvages and repairs an unfamiliar android labelled “HAP,” he learns of a shared dark past between Hap and Gio–a past spent hunting humans. When Hap unwittingly alerts robots from Gio’s former life to their whereabouts, the family is no longer hidden and safe.

PhD candidate Phoebe Walsh has always been obsessed with true crime. She's even analyzing the genre in her dissertation—if she can manage to finish writing it. It's hard to find the time while she spends the summer in Florida, cleaning out her childhood home, dealing with her obnoxiously good-natured younger brother, and grappling with the complicated feelings of mourning a father she hadn't had a relationship with for years.

Story
In a sprawling mansion filled with peculiar treasures, January Scaller is a curiosity herself. As the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke, she feels little different from the artifacts that decorate the halls: carefully maintained, largely ignored, and utterly out of place. Then she finds a strange book. A book that carries the scent of other worlds and tells a tale of secret doors, of love, adventure, and danger. Each page turn reveals impossible truths about the world, and January discovers a story increasingly entwined with her own.

Story
You may think you know how the fairytale goes: a mermaid comes to shore and weds the prince. But what the fables forget is that mermaids have teeth. And now, her daughters have devoured the kingdom and burned it to ashes. On the run, the mermaid is joined by a mysterious plague doctor with a darkness of their own. Deep in the eerie, snow-crusted forest, the pair stumble upon a village of ageless children who thirst for blood, and the three “saints” who control them. The mermaid and her doctor must embrace the cruelest parts of their true nature if they hope to survive.

Story
Do you believe in love at first sight? Paul Auster doesn't. Paul doesn't believe in much at all. He's thirty, slightly overweight, and his best features are his acerbic wit and the color commentary he provides as life passes him by. His closest friends are a two-legged dog named Wheels and a quasibipolar drag queen named Helena Handbasket. He works a dead-end job in a soul-sucking cubicle, and if his grandmother's homophobic parrot insults him one more time, Paul is going to wring its stupid neck.

Story
London, 1799. Dora Blake, an aspiring jewelry artist, lives with her odious uncle atop her late parents’ once-famed shop of antiquities. After a mysterious Greek vase is delivered, her uncle begins to act suspiciously, keeping the vase locked in the store’s basement, away from prying eyes—including Dora’s. Intrigued by her uncle’s peculiar behavior, Dora turns to young, ambitious antiquarian scholar Edward Lawrence who eagerly agrees to help. Edward believes the ancient vase is the key that will unlock his academic future; Dora sees it as a chance to establish her own name.

Publisher's Summary
"Narrator Kirt Groves provides an excellently distinct cast of voices."- Locus
A Man Called Ove meets The Good Place in Under the Whispering Door, a delightful queer love story from TJ Klune, author of the New York Times and USA Today bestseller The House in the Cerulean Sea.
Welcome to Charon's Crossing.
The tea is hot, the scones are fresh, and the dead are just passing through.
When a reaper comes to collect Wallace from his own funeral, Wallace begins to suspect he might be dead.
And when Hugo, the owner of a peculiar tea shop, promises to help him cross over, Wallace decides he’s definitely dead.
But even in death he’s not ready to abandon the life he barely lived, so when Wallace is given one week to cross over, he sets about living a lifetime in seven days.
Hilarious, haunting, and kind, Under the Whispering Door is an uplifting story about a life spent at the office and a death spent building a home.
"Graves matches his narrative pace to the measured unwinding of the story's layers, focused but unhurried, in the same way that Hugo brews his therapeutic cups of tea." —AudioFile

What the critics say
A NEW YORK TIMES, USA TODAY AND INDIE BESTSELLER
An Indie Next Pick!
“There is so much to enjoy in Under the Whispering Door, but what I cherish the most is its compassion for the little things — a touch, a glance, a precious piece of dialogue — healing me, telling me that for all the strangenesses I hold, I am valued, valid — and maybe even worthy of love.” (Ryka Aoki, Light from Uncommon Stars)
"Narrator Kirt Groves provides an excellently distinct cast of voices."- Locus
"A warm hug of a book about a Grinch of a man who dies and a ferryman, who helps the dead in their journey onwards. Under the Whispering Door is a kind book, full of faith in the goodness of people, full of kind people showing how compassion is a strength. It broke my heart with its unflinching understanding that grief never goes away, never empties, only settles into the room of your soul like a strange souvenir. And then it healed me in the next breath.” —Cassandra Khaw, author of Nothing But Blackened Teeth

wonderful
I am a big fan of this author and was awaiting this new release. I loved his last trilogy with the funny characters ,laugh out loud antics of the unicorn and the dragon ect. but this was a very profound book about life and death and the choices you make along the way. It made me laugh and weep. loved it!

Not really for me but lots of reasons to recommend
Imaginative. The story as good. I wish I had read he book rather than listened to it because I found the reader too mellow dramatic for me. I would have heard the characters’ voices differently if I had read it.

Such a unique listen
I am a die hard thriller, mystery lover. This was a big change but it really intrigued me and it was awesome. I loved the concept! Such a delightful change to routine and logic. Characters were so personal and the concept fresh. My only sort of hmmmm….wish the voices weren’t all by author (I believe). Didn’t suit the characters except maybe Wallace and Nelson. Not the worst but a small slight. But it’s his book so it’s his call.

Lovely
Made me cry a lot, at many different times, in the best way possible. I'm not sure "lawyer" was the best choice of former occupation for Wallace but it's fine, I mostly ignored that.

Wow. What a book.
This was such an incredible book, from start to finish. The story and its meanings are going to be staying with me for a long while. And the beauty of the book is brought to life by an OUTSTANDING performance by Kirt Graves. Every character so well voiced and easily identifiable, and so much emotion perfectly put into every scene.

A good blend of fantasy and reality
A unique story that talks about life and what comes after. The story starts off strong. Developing the main character Wallace and his journey. There are some slow part during the beginning but it really picks up. If you enjoyed house by the cerulean sea then you will thrilled with this.
The author also steals the show. The way he does character voices is great and he sounds like a mixture of Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty) and Max Greenfield (New Girl).
