Most of us have a limited understanding of the powerful role economics has played in shaping human civilization. This makes economic history - the study of how civilizations structured their environments to provide food, shelter, and material goods - a vital lens through which to think about how we arrived at our present, globalized moment. Designed to fill a long-empty gap in how we think about modern history, these 48 lectures are a comprehensive journey through more than 600 years of economic history.

Ever since we produced our course Thinking About Capitalism, customers have expressed interest in a follow-up course that could help them understand socialism in the same way. After much consideration, we determined that it actually would be more beneficial to create a course that compares and contrasts the two major global economic theories, examining them in ways that move past the polemics many of us are used to and looking at these systems as they relate to one another and the world at large.

♥️💯 Very informative and meaningful
I learned so much more about investing than I could imagine. This course is like an mba in a nutshell. Professor Fullenkamp was clear, funny, and pleasant to listen to. I am now eager to take the lessons learned and explore my investment options. My only regret is not being able to see the resources he referred to during the course, such as charts and formulas. I will review this material a few times over as this will be my main "go to" resource before deciding on what to put in my portfolio. This course helped me to see just how much information has been withheld by my financial advisors. Now I can truly make more informed choices.

Terrible book for audio only.
The reader very frequently makes reference to visualizations of charts which you cannot see (obviously) and he doesn't explain. For example:
"I'm going to show you a few graphs of the daily closing value of the S&P 500.."
"I'm going to show you some of the worst stock market drops in recent memory. As you look at these graphs, pay attention to."
"The first drop I'll show you is the infamous crash of "
"...as you can see from the prices after the crash..."
"let me show you another big market drop"

Loved this audiobook. The narration and voice is great. The content is amazing and value-added. The professor explained the concepts in plain language. I am in an MBA program and I can tell you that I gained a better understanding of how bonds, stocks and TMV work in this lecture compared to my professor at my Corporate Finance class. For the US audience
This book is clearly intended for the US audience. Though most of it is generic, there's plenty of references to US tax benefits and 401k's. And "foreign assets" = non-US assets.
The lecturer is quite ok. He stumbled a few times, more than the lecturer in the Economics course also by The Great Courses, but it wasn't distracting.

Talks about charts and graphs without describing
Too often the lecturer needs to refer to graphs, charts and formulas in the accompanying text without saying what page or where to find them exactly, which makes it hard to stop listening and go find whatever he's talking about. The even better option would be describing things in such a way that I wouldn't need to go find them in the PDF!
This felt more like a lecturer doing a PowerPoint presentation than something in true audio format. Too often I was in that "lecture state of mind" where you're listening to variables and numbers without really understanding what's going on until you look at them written down on the slide, but there isn't a slide here to look at! In audio all of this should be done with words, and certainly is possible, but here they did a poor job of it. Hence the bad review.
I leave feeling like I got the gist of it but spent way too long hearing a droning sound of variables and formulas that I couldn't make sense of by just listening.
P.s.: am doing a masters in STEM so math is not really the problem.

How to find the accompanying pdf
I have not listened to this yet but saw several reviewers commenting on the lack of visual charts. If you open the book details full screen on your device (I am using Audible app on IPhone) and tap the 3-dot menu button (top right on app) it will open a menu where ‘Accompanying PDF’ is listed. Tap and the pdf opens. AUDIBLE TEAM - I recommend a feature on the home page at regular intervals to remind users of this as it has taken me a long time to find it - no help articles popped up when I searched for pdf. Love what you do! Thanks!

Missing key reference materials
The narrator refers to charts and tables that are not in the PDF. The chapter of Financial Statements, is just one example. It starts by referring to an example 2010 Income and Balance Sheet from Campbell's and uses that to show how to calculate key ratios. That example is missing from the PDF and makes that chapter very hard to follow without taking mad notes and essentially recreating the balance sheet from online resources. That was a huge miss for whoever edited this from a video version.
