À propos de cet audio

One part memoir, one part comedy special, one part crazy first date. Just you and Matt between the covers. What could be better?

Matt Rife is well aware that he’s both the most loved and the most controversial comic in America today. And honestly, he thinks that’s your problem.

Matt reveals (without apology, of course) what led him to becoming comedy’s biggest lightning rod before he reached thirty, in a story full of bold and hysterical takes on everything from Justin Bieber tramp stamps and rap battles with ex-cons to Matt’s struggles with depression and his many brushes with failure before finally hitting it big.

Born in trashy backwoods Ohio, Matt was saved by his foul-mouthed but loving grandpa Steve, who fostered his passion for standup. He started hitting comedy clubs before he could even drink, cutting his teeth in front of crowds who dared him to succeed. Matt honed a brand of razor-sharp, brutally honest standup that took no prisoners—and took him to the most famous stages of Atlanta and LA before he graduated high school. Along the way, he broke the hearts of MILFs everywhere, finally hit puberty at the ripe age of twenty-two, and never, ever backed down.

Full of Matt opening up, at his unfiltered best, about his life for the very first time, this book will give his millions of fans everything they want and more—and might even get his insecure enemies to change their minds.

I became a MR fan in Covid, but felt a little rattled after the controversy with Netflix. I wasn't on the cancel train, but I wasn't sure what to think, either. I pre-ordered his book because I wanted to hear him out. As I listened, I fully understood where Matt was coming from. Comedy is MEANT to poke at the edges of what is sane and comfortable: apologizing for that is a sure fire way to lose a career in comedy. Think about it... one apology for this thing, and then the next thing, and the next, and suddenly there's nothing left to joke about. Matt also speaks in this book about how his comedy is inclusive and it really shifted and challenged my thinking. I appreciated Matt's vulnerability throughout. Equally, I also appreciated his humor throughout! Many lines had me cracking right up. I was genuinely disappointed when the book ended - this will be a re-listen for absolute certainty.

I didn’t know much about Matt Rife; watched a few funny reels on social media and decided to check out his audiobook. I couldn’t stop listening! His story is genuine and inspiring, and he writes/reads it in a way that is not only funny but relates. Finished the book in 2 days!

New fan

Like most people, I became a huge Matt Rife fan in COVID times. I find him funny in general and also like how he's willing to push the envelope and largely ignore the people who he offends, people who aren't part of his audience to begin with. It's a little weird to have a memoire from someone who is under 30, but he definitely does have a lot to say and delivers it very well.

Rife is pretty much the opposite of a nepo baby, having grown up poor and in some pretty broken homes and fighting his way for every inch of where he is now. He's been through and has done a lot for someone his age, though still not so much than this is more than a quick read. There's a lot of inspiring things said though and it does make me appreciate him more knowing what he's had to do to get where he is and that despite his success, he's not drowning in money and still has roomates.

Comedy's a brutal business and this shows that well, while also being funny and a tale of how hard work can breed success.

Interesting, but definitely early
