When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder - much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing - not even a smear of blood - to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

What the critics say
“Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy saga is set to be the next young adult paranormal series to become a household name.”—The Huffington Post
“…Mead knows her folklore, using it to great advantage in crafting a credible back story for the friction between her good and evil vampires.”—The Miami Herald
“Vampire Academy is on an entirely different playing field than Twilight…Rose shows no signs of codependency; she’s the Sasha Fierce of Vampires, kicking ass and taking names.”—Miami New Times
Featured Article: 11 Book Series for Fans of the Twilight Saga
The Twilight Saga, by Stephenie Meyer, was one of the most widely popular book series of its time. It spawned a huge following, gained devoted fans that argued fervently for either Team Edward or Team Jacob, and generally started an entire young adult vampire craze. It was also a sign to many that teens could still become obsessed with books—and not just obsessed, but obsessed on a widespread, global level. But after Twilight came to an end, many younger listeners (and the adults they grew into) were left wondering what next series could fill the void. Luckily, a plethora of authors stepped up with content sure to satisfy any Twilight fan’s thirst for a new listen.

didn't like the reader
these books are a favorite of mine, I've read them several times in print.
I was disappointed with this reader, she sounded clinical. it just wasn't a good match. It sounded like I was listening to a lecture. luckily the next book in the series is a different voice.

Interesting but story is for teens
I read this a few years ago but never finished the series, so I decided to listen to the audiobooks. I didn't love or hate the reader, but some of the voices were a bit cheesy. Story is interesting but is very much geared towards a younger crowd. I will continue to listen to the rest of the series!

Absolutely love the story, hate the narrator
I have all the physical books and have read these stories a few times. These books are amazing, I love the story line, keeps you interested all the way through, but the narrator on this audiobook is horrible, makes it hard to listen to. I heard the second book it is someone different, I really hope it is because it this narrator ruins the book

Such an awful narrator
This book series is genuinely so good. But between this horrible narrator making the main character sound like a whiny 12 year old and the awful movie they made it into it has been made into a joke. SAVE YOUR MONEY ON THIS AUDIBLE BOOK. If your really interested in the series it’s not worth it. You should buy the actual book!

kept me mildly entertained but geared for tweens
I had a hard time with the narrators voice... when she would switch to a male character, she sounded so goofy and cartoon-ish. The book was easy to listen to while I worked, but definitely geared towards 13 year old girls in both storyline and writing style. that being said, I'm still going to listen to book 2. I wish someone would write a book similar to "the last vampire " by Christopher Pike. Now there is a vampire series that was captivating!

Narrator is awful. They should re-record this book!
I’ve never written a review but this narrator was truly awful. She voiced every single female character as weak and child-like. She used simpering whiny voices for all the young (high school aged) female characters. It half ruined the entire book. Even the main characters who you could tell from the writing were supposed to be brave figures she voiced as cartoon damsels. It made all the characters seem extremely one dimensional and uninteresting which is a shame because the writing isn’t necessarily bad but it was hard to get past the performance. I’m honestly shocked whoever produced this approved this for release. They should 100% re-record it.

Love the novel—HORRIBLE narrators!!!!!!
I absolutely love this novel I have a tattoo on my neck just like Dimitri & Rose! This is one of my all-time favourites I highly recommend it sadly though the narrator is horrible! I do not know why the person is so terrible at trying different voices and making it cringe worthy at times because this truly is an awesome novel & series, but as far as audible goes I can’t give it a good score!!!! Read the book you won’t be disappointed I love it hopefully you will as wel!!!

Love the book. Horrible narrator
Story line was great.
The narrator was horrible. She made all the characters sound like little cartoon characters, either little doll like or evil villain. Stephanie Wolf should have just read the entire book in her “normal” Rose Hathaway characters voice.

Voices not lined up
Wish the voices were a little more in line with character description. Dimitri sounds like a American’s version of a 50 year old creepy Russian rather than a 20 something with a faint Russian accent. Lissa sounds like a whiny brat. Also correct pronunciations of the races would be nice.

Story is great but the narrator is a bit boring.
It feels like the narrator was a bit new. I wish she would get more into the characters and voices like the narrator for Harry Potter and the Graceling series. I have already read the book so it didn’t really take away from the story for me, but I wish she would have seemed more into it.

Not amazing narrator but better than books 2 & 3's
Wolf is better than Hvam (book 2 & 3's Narrator). But even though she is better her baby voice is bothersome. Still, despite all that I enjoyed listening. I particularly love that I read it first the old fashioned way. And not entirely sure I would have gotten through the book had I not already read it myself.
Audible needs mature sounding female narrators, the high pitch screeching hurts my ears.

Love the book, cant stand the narrator
Omg, the speaker. Awful. 1. Learn to say the words in the book. Yes, they’re made up, but they’re still pronounced a certain way! 2. Why does every girl voice have to be high and dumb sounding? 3. The southern accent. Omg.
The book itself is compelling and a great intro to the series, but the narrator is aaaaawful.
