About this listen

A captivating story about finding your soul mates in a world fought with unseen dangers, Variant Lost is an Amazon top 100 best seller!

One ordinary woman. Four extraordinary men. A power that could ruin them all.

Driven by a promise to keep her identity secret, tenacious Evelyn Maynard is all alone in the world. But a scholarship to the exclusive Bradford Hills Institute offers her a safe haven and a fresh start. Or so she thought. Eve is one of the only humans at her new school, brimming with those born with Variant DNA—and coveted superhuman abilities.

Bound by shared tragedy, Ethan, Josh, Tyler, and Alec—and their unique powers—are revered among Variants. But something has always been missing, and she may have just arrived with a scholarship and a glint in her enchanting, curious eyes.

Together, they could be unimaginably powerful, but being bonded by the Light itself isn’t always a blessing, and Eve’s dangerous past could curse them all.

Because she’s not the only one keeping secrets....

Can they learn to trust each other in time to save themselves from an insidious danger no one saw coming?

I wish Audible used a rating system and put age categories for intended audiences. I would say this book is meant for teens, not adults or even young adults. Based on the premise and other reviews, I expected there to be more spice or at least a good dose of sexual tension leading up to things, but everything was fairly PG vanilla until one singular scene near the end of the book. Even then, it was a very tame YA moment. The storyline drags in the middle and nothing substantial happens or develops between chapter 13 and chapter 24. It was all a bit bland.
I liked the duet narration, but had to listen to the book at 1.4x speed for it to sound normal. So I’d say that the stated 13hr audiobook length is inaccurate. Overall the narrators did a good job. My only complaint was that Tyler’s voice sounded like a 1950s radio announcer and never sounded sincere or authentic. The other males were well done.

Fine to meh
