Publisher's Summary

The path to Heaven runs through miles of icy Hell …

James Crowley has ridden the road to Crescent City before, but never with companions like these. Never with a woman whose very presence jeopardizes everything he’s fought for over the past two decades.

The swamps are a brutal, nasty place filled with creatures most people think only exist in nightmares and fever dreams. When Crowley, along with Rosa, Bram Stoker, Harker, and Irish stumble upon such a creature, and one of their party finds themselves mortally wounded, they must find help in the most unlikely of places.

But that wasn’t James Crowley’s mission. As a Black Badge, a Hand of God, he’s been tasked with hunting down the worst Hell has to offer, and at Shargrafein’s beckoning, he must suss out the Betrayer—a mysterious being about whom no information is given.

What he finds is something he never could have guessed. The city is overrun with vampires, werewolves, and worse, including an old acquaintance with nothing good in mind.

Meanwhile, Rosa has continued her pursuit to reconnect with her dead husband, Willy Massey. With the help of a Voodoo Queen, she must do the unthinkable. Only Crowley stands between her and a choice that would forever scar her soul. But will he be able to escape the clutches of Hell in order to keep her from destroying everything and everyone in her path?

With the question of right and wrong always nagging at Crowley’s undead heart, he must decide where his loyalties lie in this pulse-pounding sequel to the hit Cold as Hell. The Witcher meets The Dresden Files in this weird Western series by the Audible number one bestselling duo behind Dead Acre.

intriguing

the plot wasn't straightforward and the intrigue as well as the twists and turns kept me hooked until the very end.

flawlessly narrated and a great book

so, I'm a big fan of Roger Clark as a voice talent and this series has had me locked in from the 1st sentence of the 1st of the 3 books.

an awesome twist on the classic western fable. A cowboy, his trusty horse and so many adventures. This series is wonderful and Roger's voice was the cherry on the cake. I could not be happier listening to the series and can't wait for it to continue on.

I want more

I'd just finished RDR2 when I happened upon this series and I couldn't have enjoyed it more it's whatshisname! doin the cowboy voice! punchin ghouls and whatnot. Interesting lore world but it's the performance that really wins it for me, sounds like he was having fun with it. I hope there's more books in the future and Crowley interacts with other Black Badges, see how they do things.

A Coin Flip Away from Madness

Fresh off the heels of finishing the book, I’m left with some complicated feelings on it. While it had highs and lows within, keeping my attention became an increasingly difficult task till the end.

I wouldn’t hold that against the book however, more than likely needing rereads to understand all the lore and implications. A solid expansion to the world in which our favourite outlaw treads. But the one problem I come back to is that this feels very much like a lot of set up.

Either way, I can’t say that the biggest flaw is that I have to wait for the next book, but it kind of is. Aside from a view continuity errors I picked up on from having listened to the previous books again in preparation.
