Publisher's Summary
"Superbly performed by Susan Ericksen, Vendetta in Death is mesmerizing to the very end, and a 'must' especially for connoisseurs of the genre.... Highly recommended." (Midwest Book Review)
The predator becomes the prey in J. D. Robb's Vendetta in Death, the newest thriller in the number one New York Times best-selling series featuring homicide detective Eve Dallas.
She calls herself Lady Justice. And once she has chosen a man as her target, she turns herself into a tall blonde or a curvaceous redhead, makes herself as alluring and seductive as possible to them. Once they are in her grasp, they are powerless.
The first victim is wealthy businessman Nigel McEnroy. His company’s human resources department has already paid out settlements to a couple of his young victims - but they don’t know that his crimes go far beyond workplace harassment. Lady Justice knows. And in one shocking night of brutality, she makes him pay a much steeper price.
Now, Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, are combing through the evidence of McEnroy’s secret life. His compulsive need to record his misdeeds provides them with a wide range of suspects, but the true identity of Lady Justice remains elusive. It’s a challenging case, made even more difficult by McEnroy’s widow, who reacts to the investigation with fury, denial, and threats. Meanwhile, Lady Justice’s criminal crusade is escalating rapidly, and if Eve can’t stop this vigilante, there’s no telling how much blood may be spilled....

Love the Book, Hate the Narrator
I really detest the narrator's voice for Peabody! Love the book though!
Not enamored of Roarke's voice either.

Could Have Benn A Great Read!
Good potential but (sadly), once again Robb had to focus on and write much too much of the story about the murderer. If I wanted to read descriptions of torture and the murderer's actions and thoughts then I would choose a different kind of book! It is excellently read and why there are reviews that criticize the narration makes no sense to me! This series s blessed with an outstanding narrator!!!

Same old.
Same old over and over, seriously, if I am 50 books into the series there is no need to explain the characters again.
Narrator, please give up the horribly executed accents! Not every character needs to be defined this way.
Don't waste your money, just re listen to older books.

Exciting action story but unfinished
This is as always an intense story of expected action and increasing suspense. Well written as always but entirely too short and written too quickly. Too much was missing. Somerset, a main character in the entire series is mentioned in passing. Mavis, though giving exciting news, was basically absent. It is almost the sketch of a great story but needs the heart to bring it all together. A character that was to meet up with Mavis is never mentioned again. What happened there? Robb dropped the ball on this one. I am a faithful reader and will continue in hopes that she gets back on track.

Tired
This book had a lot of the cast from the In Death books and I appreciated that. What I didn't appreciate were repeat plots or suggestions that this case might be the same as what happened previously. I think JD has taken Eve as far as she can and maybe it's time to promote her or knock her up.

The magic is missing
I can’t believe that’s it’s been almost 50 books since I first met Eve, Roarke and the rest of them. Well more if you count the novellas. I think that very few series can survive these many books and still keep true to themselves.
Story-wise Vendetta in Death isn’t the strongest in the series. I would say that it’s lost some of its shine, its essence, compared to the other books. These books have always been as much about the cast of characters surrounding Eve, as it has been about solving the current crime. Granted the current crimes are more brutal and gruesome than they usually are. In this book though, the relationships and the friendships were way in the background and more often than not they felt like an afterthought. As if those few scenes or mentions were just thrown in just to keep the reader/listener from forgetting them. Like we’d have any hope to forget any of them, we’ve followed and loved them for 50 frickin’ books now. So I missed them in this book, even Roarke wasn’t as present and prominent as he usually is. And where was Somerset? Does it count as a “real in Death” book if Eve and Somerset aren’t sniping at each other?
There were a couple of priceless scenes in this book though; Mavis’ encore. They had me laughing out loud. I could just picture Eve and Roarke’s faces; they totally made the book for me. I think that Susan Ericksen has a lot to do with that. I mean she knows these characters and can portray them like no other. With every line she delivers she brings them to life, their feelings and actions are always spot on. Not to mention the unbelievable amount of voices she effortlessly switches between. In truth, these audiobooks wouldn’t be what they were if not for Ms. Ericksen

Disappointing
I love this series, but while this one had good moments, the story was stale. She did one very similar not too many books ago.
The last 2 Nora Roberts stand alone have been fabulous which makes this more disappointing.

Mixed feelings...
I love this series and always preorder the books...automatic downloads for me. Susan Erickson is one of my fav narrators and ALWAYS gives a fabulous performance. All that said, this was not one of the best installments of the series. I was disappointed with how quickly the murderer was revealed and that we didn’t get much time with all the supporting characters we’ve grown to love; and, what we did get of them seemed like afterthoughts, honorable mentions. Still, I finished it in one day and will preorder the next book. So I guess it wasn’t as disenchanting as I thought.....? Like I said, mixed feelings. It was okay. I hope the next one is great.

Disappointed
This was all around disappointing. Dragging the story out too much since the murderess was found out very quickly. Too many side plots. A mess. The narrator sounded like she was forgetting what character she was voicing because Peabody sounded like Eve in several incidents. There were other bad voices, however two main character's voices interchanged was one of the worse narrations I've ever heard.

Same same
I've read every book in the "In Death" series, some many many times and the first 2/3 of the series were absolutely my favorite to listen to., Susan Ericksen is hands down the best narrator i"ve had the privilege to listen to however the story lines are being repeated and repeated until I actually wonder if Nora Roberts actually pens these latest versions. About every third book of the last 1/3 is up to her standards and I admit feely that she set the bar VERY high with her earlier work. "Vendetta in Death" feels like a re-write of some of the others. I hope we see more creative story telling in the future as the main characters are so compelling.

Not as good
Let me start by saying I love Eve Dallas. Sadly this one just wasn’t as good as the other books. Less than half way into the book she let you know who the killer was. It just wasn’t as gripping as the rest have been. Susan Erickson, as always, was great. I couldn’t imagine any one else reading these books.
Let’s hope number 50 is better!

Good read, but a lot of rehash
The killer is revealed earlier and earlier as the series progresses. Maybe a little too soon. It is easy to see the melding of previous killers in the present one and the "source" of the victims. Very nice to include continuing life of Mavis, Leonardo and Bella and reinforce Eve and Mavis's long standing relationship. Nice to include Nadine and new beau, Jake. I missed Charles and Louise. I'm not into spoilers, not sorry.

Getting tired of the sex-based crimes and repeats
Let me start by saying that this series has been going strong since 1995 and there are close to (if not already) 50 installments in the series, so there are bound to be similarities or parallels, between cases.
That being said, the frequency of sexual assault as a plot device or crime in this series is getting tiresome. In addition, the women support group facet was lifted right out of Brotherhood. Granted, it was one person this time around instead of three, but still.
Calculated and Born were similar in that you had conspiracies in accounting firms in both.
I'm going to start borrowing the audiobooks from my public library instead of wasting a credit.
On a positive note, Susan Ericksen delivers a wonderful performance as always!
