The most erotic book I have ever read!
Viking Thunder is the most erotic book I have ever read and when I listened to it on Audible it was even better! The narrator does an excellent job presenting the intense and dark tale of Viking raids and fierce warriors. Elswyth is half Viking due to a previous raid by the Vikings and she knows that she is different than the other girls. Not only does she look different but she is not content with a life of female pursuits. She is visited in her dreams by Viking spirits, so when the Vikings raid the village again, she is drawn to their handsome warrior. Erik unleashes longings and lust in Elswyth that her weak husband never could. I don't want to give away too much, but the story if earthy and primal and resonates in your blood. It feels so real that you are sucked into the era and rough ways of the raiders. I hope that Emmanuelle writes a sequel soon!

She was looking for an escape from her life.
The British coastal townships had endured many Viking invasions, leaving women raped and men slaughtered. This recounting of one such invasion, includes the attitude of one of the women, who was a result of a raid years earlier, and whose Nordic features had always segregated her from the other woman.
I enjoyed the audio rendition of this book, which greatly enhanced my appreciation of this story.

Very Old School Pillage - Great but beware
This story has a great performer, and it pulls you in. As a person who loves historical fiction, this was completely up my alley. However, this is a listener beware. It is a story about Viking raping and pillaging a town and the after effects of it.
On the other hand, this story was super interesting. The characters were dynamic and interesting, the storyline seems very real to me, and the whole thing just pulls you in and suddenly you have listened to the whole story without realizing its been 90 minutes! I would definitely suggest this audiobook to anyone who loves history and a sexy story!

Not a romance novel!!
First of all this is in only the h's point of view, you get nothing from the H. This story talks about rape as though they are discussing what they ate for breakfast! There is no relationship building between the H & h, but that doesn't seem to be that big a deal since when she decides to go with him he says he will give his children his name and inheritance and that he has bedded many women and will bed many more!! WTF?? Thankfully this was short because that's the only reason I finished it. I plan to return this and see no reason to continue the series.

I really like this audio
My second (short) read/listen from author Emmanuelle de Maupassant, although I own a number of her works it was the audio that enticed me to read this one since I own both the Kindle and the Audible editions. As much as I don't care for short stories, I really liked this one. It takes something special to write a short story and in this, my second read from this author it all comes together. The only way it could be better would be to expand to a longer story and since it serves as an intro to a series it works. The accent of the narrator adds to the listening enjoyment.

Prequel
3.5 stars.
Short and hot story, prequel of Viking Warriors. It’s about Elswyth’s life so far, told from her POV.
I really liked the narrator, Emma Parry.

Dark and Steamy, just the way I like it.
This isn't a long audiobook, and it is incredibly easy to get involved in the story, thanks to the narrator. I normally wouldn't grab Viking books. In fact, until a group of authors put together Viking stories (and they happened to be authors I liked), I never paid much attention to them.
Emmanuelle writes steam, plain and simple. The steam rises from the situations the characters find themselves in as well as the characters themselves. I've read a few other reviews that found fault with certain phrasing during the steamy scenes, or they didn't care for the public sex. I would not doubt for a second that the rapes bothered some, but I always remind myself that in fiction, anything can and does happen. All that said, I liked this book. It was hot, steamy, and not so far over the top that I couldn't relate to the characters. I couldn't help but both like and have sympathy for Elswyth. Here was a woman whose husband used her for a shield and very easily gave her away to the Vikings in return for his life. Brave lot, that one (not). Then there was the Viking Eirik. I think part of the problem I had with the Vikings, until I remembered something about Elswyth from the beginning of the book, was that Eirik just decided to take her. But remembering what was written about her beginnings, and then I realized that Elswyth didn't look foreign to him.
This book is something you take an hour out of our day to listen to. It moves at a steady pace with very few breaks in the story. There was a decent balance between the narrative and verbiage, so I didn't get bogged down listening to lengthy descriptions. I rated the ebook as four stars, but I'm giving this five. This presented better in audio, which rarely happens with me. If I read Vikings, I would prefer they were written by Emmanuelle de Maupassant and her friends.
