From the rural festivities in 'Village Christmas' to the poignant tale of a white robin, these two stories demonstrate the wry wit and light touch of Miss Read. Two heartwarming and wonderfully festive listens.

Two delightful peeks into village life

Two stories highlighting the nature of village life and the characters shaped by the experience. In Village Christmas we get the contrast between newly-arrived urban dwellers and two spinster sisters living in the house in which they were born.
The White Robin tells the story of the sighting of a rare white bird, but in the process, the changes taking place in the village as the outside world encroaches are revealed, as well as how much stays the same. We watch familiar characters evolving.
Excellent narration by June Barrie, although my favourite is Gwen Watford.
