Publisher's Summary

VISIONS OF FLESH AND BLOOD: a Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire Compendium is a comprehensive companion guide for background, history, reader-favorite information, and reference materials. Combined with original short stories and scenes from some of the world’s most beloved characters, it’s a treat for the senses.

Told from the point of view of Miss Willa herself, the compendium acts like research material but reads like a journal and cache of personal notes, allowing the reader to revisit the characters and history they so love yet view things in a different way.

VISIONS OF FLESH AND BLOOD by Jennifer L. Armentrout with Rayvn Salvador is a must-add addition to the series that any Blood and Ash/Flesh and Fire fan will enjoy.

Waste of a credit

Wish I could get the credit back. I will not be likely to purchase JLA again. Retelling of the same books everyone has already read to this point rather than continuing the series…

Waste of time

I was really excited to hear more, in this series but I was sadly disappointed with the book that I jumped around, but quickly realized it was more of a dictionary

Disappointed

I love this series, but this book is a summary of all the other books with nothing new. I thought it would have been told from Willa’s perspective, but it is not the case. I skipped a lot of chapters. I love the narrator.

So much repeating everything we've already read!

Book didn't finish Poppy & Cass's story but told repeatly the books we'd already read. Very long and kept repeating. Very disappointing.

Not worth it

while the storytelling was good, it was really disappointing and repetitive hearing the same seems described only the slightest bit differently from character to character. I wish I didn't waste my pre-order credits on this. it would have been better as a physical copy to reference...

Repetitive

did I mention repetitive? I wouldn't have wasted money (credit(s)) on this or the last book if I'd realized just how much it was a repeat of every past book of the series. it really is annoying. I let it go the first time but twice in a row?? a bit much and an obvious money grab. only someone who has not read a single page before would need to read either of these last two books. not sure I want to continue if we ever do get a new one released.

Money grab

Why would an author do this? I knew it would be a summary again. I didn’t expect a continuation. But I did not think I’d spend a credit on a “book” where each chapter just repeats what was said in the last. They keep describing the same scene. Points of views are really just, a repeat word for word, of what was said previously.

I’d have paid for just a two hour listen of Willa’s map and escapades, done. without all these repetitions. It was more than disappointing. Would not recommend. Just listen to the last book where the story was told from Castile’s POV (really just a copy paste again). It’s the same thing you’ll keep hearing. Excellent for this book, it’s like a 50 first dates scene.

Good source of information!

While this book is repeating everything already known to readers, thats the point of it. It is meant as a compendium so readers can search for something they may have forgotten. I will definitely be using it to keep all the gods straight in my head!

Great for what it is, but nothing new given. If you're looking for a continuation of the story, definitely don't pick up a compendium.

Great for it's purpose! - a guidebook

TL;DR - no new story, mainly character and plot summary. Some side quests unlocked. Big fan, still enjoyed :)

LR: Unsure why so many negative reviews when the title and description clearly state it's a compendium - I.e. a guide through all of her works in this series to help refresh and organize the information for the reader. There has been a lot of changes throughout each book as we learn more information along with the characters and this helps to reorganize everything so the reader is up to date.

If you are looking for story continuation this is not for you. There is some bonus content and new POV chapters, however it is not the main focus. Each character has a section of the book that recounts their journey. Yes, it can be repetative as we are still only receiving information on the side characters based on what we have already seen. Yes, I wish there was at least a few more details we had not seen with the side characters. However, overall, the book is exactly as it was described to be, a companion novel.

This 'story' is told by Miss Willa, as though recounting both series through visions she's had about the cast so far. I peronally found this book helpful in summarizing each characters journey to date, and it helped clarify some of the more confusing concepts (e.g. Ascension vs. ascended). The artwork inside the physical book is gorgeous, and the bonus content included is fun (we get lots of Miss Willa diary entries, and some fun little side notes and journeys with Poppy and Cas, a POV with Nyktos from ALITF, and an interview with Kieran).

The acting from Stina Nielson is phenomenal as always <3
