Publisher's Summary

The thrilling sequel to Dance of Thieves, featuring danger, deception, and romance.

Kazi and Jase have survived, stronger and more in love than ever. Their new life now lies before them - the Ballengers will be outlaws no longer, Tor's Watch will be a kingdom, and the two of them will meet all challenges side by side, together at last.

But an ominous warning mars their journey back, and in their rush to return to Tor's Watch, just outside the fortress walls, they are violently attacked and torn apart - and each is thrust into their own new hell.

Unsure whether the other is alive or dead, Kazi and Jase must keep their wits among their greatest enemies and unlikeliest allies. And all the while, Death watches and waits.

Too long

I always love her writing--go Mary. But this sequel disappointed me in several ways. The story needed editing and tightening. There were too many irrelevant sub plots, and way too many characters I didn't care about. Karissa's narration was often whiny and forlorn. By the end I was ready for the axe about 75-100 listening pages in.

This did NOT feel like a duology

This book is the perfect end to an amazing story. Everything came full circle. This book made me laugh, cry, and roll my eyes in the best way possible. Jase and Kazi go through so much in this book :( I can’t wait to read more from Mary E. Pearson!

Great action scenes

The concept wasn't terribly new, but the world and main characters were painted out thouroughly and wonderfully. Someone rated the male reader as not very good, but I'd disagree, in my opinion it's the older lady reading only quotes who's got a strange voice and isn't very pleasant to listen to. However, nothing terrible though, so it doesn't ruin the experience at all. A pleasant 2-book series that are fairly long and full of suspense!

Great Narrators and Story

Great narrators and story with a satisfying ending. I'm usually left unsatisfied with a duology, but not this time.

Amazing! Need more stories like this one!

I loved this book! The characters, their relationship and motives are all very genuine. you understand how they work and you fall in love with both protagonists as they do to.
I was already a fan of Pearson's Kiss of Deception and this book was even better!

Enemies to lovers story at its best!

Great spin off

I just finished this one, the author and the narrators really did an amazing job on this story as well. The author is great at her plot twists, which I like. I’m usually able to guess what might happen. This story kept me on edge just like the first. Without giving anything away, I did not give it 4 stars because there was one part I was hoping would be in the story but it wasn’t. It really is still an amazing story, but I don’t think she made a third book.

Worth a read!

If you like romance stories with action, adventure, and secrets, this is for you! I think all the narrators did good job. There was never a point I was annoyed by any of them. Jase was kind of unenthusiastic at times but that’s expected.

My only set back is the beginning is very slow. But that is also expected because the book before this had a happy ending so it took awhile for a new problem to arise. It was worth it though! I was at the edge of my seat a couple times.

Overall I throughly enjoyed it! I am a bit bias though because I REALLY loved the remnant chronicles! (The series before this one)
