À propos de cet audio
Is darkness synonymous with ignorance and evil? Or is it the original matrix from which all life emerges, and the Mother to whom it returns? Higher and higher levels of artificial illumination have suppressed our contact with the numinous since the Industrial Revolution, with dire consequences for society, our planetary ecology, and our souls. This mystical testament weaves together paleobiology, memoir, history, science, and spiritual archaeology to lead listeners back into the lost mysteries of the dark. Not since The Teachings of Don Juan or Ishmael has a book diagnosed with such urgency and cultural coherence the problems at the heart of modern life.
In Waking Up to the Dark, Clark Strand offers penetrating insight into the spiritual enrichment that can be found when we pull the plug on our billion-watt culture. He argues that the insomnia so many of us experience as "the Hour of the Wolf" is really "the Hour of God"—a wellspring of rest and renewal, and an ancient reservoir of ancestral wisdom and inspiration. And in a powerful yet surprising turn, he shares with us an urgent message for the world, received through a mysterious young woman he calls Our Lady of Climate Change (aka THE VIRGIN MARY), about the challenges we all know are coming.

Made me look
A very important and wonderful book. Makes you look at what you don’t want to look at, though it is hard …once you do, it’s a sense of relief. Thank YOU

Necessary for the Earth to survive.
I didn’t like how oil became villainized, as a citizen of Alberta Canada, the natural resource has supported my livelihood my entire life. It didn’t matter if I was horse training, doing upholstery or raising my children while my husband worked in the oilfield, oil kept us warm and alive and fed at times when nobody else cared to give a small rural family a second thought. That being said, this book is necessary and attempts to explain the interconnectedness between a wide range of topics that all intertwine and resonated very deep within me. We must learn to use our resources more sparingly. It doesn’t matter if it’s oil, coal, lumber, water, food, fire—all these things we take and take and take more than any of us individuals need and we overextend the Earth when she begs us to rest so she can rest as well. The need for “achievement” and “productivity” will be the end of us. Turning off the lights and reconnecting with the stars can fuel us more than most people will ever realize. My dad would stroll out into the wilderness for hours star gazing. Albeit he was an alcoholic and if worried my mother and I terribly, I started doing it soberly in my thirties during a depression and came to find that this nighttime strolling restored my mental health and my sleep rhythms. Shortly afterwards my goddess Hekate led me to this book and I was shocked to read many things I already “knew without knowing”. Thank you Clark Strand (and Perdita Finn) for putting this all to paper, the Earth needs your writings.
